Troy Smith has not been given a legit shot to prove if he's really starter material. When he got that chance in Baltimore (finally) -- he got sick. By the time he got back -- Flacco had taken over.
That is the only time he was ever given a realistic shot. Nobody really knows what he's capable of doing.
But we're going to find out over the course of the rest of this season.

Just replied on the site...
"While the Buccaneers are building around legitimate prospects, the 49ers are toying with Troy Smith, the kind of pesky scrambler who always looks great to awful teams."
Wow. You're braindead. I dunno if Troy Smith is the future or not, but a 116.6 QB rating over his first 2 games is not just good compared to Alex Smith. Its good compared to ANYBODY.
If Troy Smith was 3 inches taller, he'd have been a 1st round pick and would have been starting for the past few years. Height is WAY over-rated. Lack of height hasn't hurt Brres or Vick either.
First and formost, Troy isn't a "pesky scrambler". He threw for 356 yards with EIGHT completions over 20 yards in the last game.
Also....building around youg talent? Frank Gore, Vernon Davis, Michael Crabtree, Delanie Walker, Josh Morgan, etc, etc.....
I don't mind you being critical, but have a clue before you post.

From last week:
Quote:
Round robin, Part 2. The Rams are statistically superior to the other N.F.C. West teams. They are the only team with a positive takeaway-giveaway figure (plus 3), the only one with more passing touchdowns than interceptions (11 to 8), and the only one whose quarterback choice inspires neither chuckles nor resignation. They are 0-3 on the road, however, and they are stuck in second place because of a loss to the Cardinals, so every divisional win helps.
During the Niners’ bye week, the NFL Network completed its “Top 100 Players of All Time” series, so Bay Area fans got to watch Joe Montana (ranked fifth) and Jerry Rice (first) instead of Troy Smith and Delanie Walker. For those fans, this week will feel as if waking up from a beach-at-sunset dream to discover they fell asleep in the middle of a calculus exam. PICK: Rams
And then three weeks ago:

The British gave us awkward comedy, so it’s only fair that we send them awkward football. Ricky Gervais for Josh McDaniels: an equitable tit-for-tat. We could wow the English with the Saints and Steelers or export superstars like Tom Brady and gimpy Brett Favre, but no one can top the Broncos and 49ers when it comes to squirmy laughs.
The usually defiant McDaniels suddenly became contrite this week, apologizing to “the organization, the fans, everybody else” for the Broncos’ 59-14 loss to the Raiders. After 23 games, McDaniels finally realized that alienating his best players and treating the draft like an impulse shopping splurge might have a detrimental effect on the team’s success. In a year or two, he may rediscover the hand-off.
With 49ers quarterback Alex Smith injured, Mike Singletary will bypass backup David Carr and turn to the third-stringer Troy Smith on Sunday. That eliminates the messy middle step where Carr gets sacked six times, then benched. Troy Smith got the endorsement of Mike Johnson, the offensive assistant who replaced Jimmy Raye, who was fired because he couldn’t communicate with Alex Smith. It’s good to know that the 49ers’ chain of command is tidy.
None of this matters much to most Brits, who can name only one player on either roster: Tim Tebow. Hilarious, in a quirky way. Pick: Broncos.

It is simply mind over matter. I don't mind cause he don't matter. Troy Smith still has to prove himself against good teams. However, for him to mention Troy's height, makes one think, he is just sour grapes cause he got a$$ whipped but shorter guys.

Good call. I just reminded him if his incompetence. Or is it incontinence? Or both?

He was also wrong about week six.
Quote:
Coach Mike Singletary threatened to bench Alex Smith in favor of David Carr on Sunday night, but he was really just using reverse psychology: once Smith protested the move, he proved his worthiness to keep his job. No one told Carr that Smith’s benching was just a page from the Riddle of the Sphinx Management Workbook, so Carr walked into the Niners huddle, only to find that Smith was already there. Keep in mind that the offensive coordinator Jimmy Raye was recently fired because of his poor communication skills. Niners fans shouted “We want Carr!” during the loss to the Eagles, but being from San Francisco, they really wanted some kind of hybrid. Pick: Raiders

This is an absolute must win. Every game here on out is. We can only realistically lose two and still have a shot. Maybe only one. But if we can't win this one, we still have the packers at home and the chargers at home so chances are slim wed make it

Nah. I like the energy. I love amped up fans who hold it down for their team. We don't need to be so prissy all the damn time. Get amped up about your team. Like RJF said, they need us this Sunday. Lets get fired up and be the 12th man for our team! Go Niners!

I'm getting sick and tired of Troy being labeled a scrambler, Troy doesn't pack enough punch in his speed to even be considered a scrambler. Pocket elusive? Yes.
As for his comments about Tampa, that's little bemusing as well (to some extent). LeGarrette Blount has only played in two games (as Troy has), and all of sudden he's being crowned a Pro Bowl RB?
LeGarrette Blount = Icky Woods 2010. -Dude can run but CANNOT BLOCK WORTH s**t. Situational back with the IQ of 5, and emotional problems (with a horrible learning curve).

I like the optimism displayed on this board. I guess it's understandable why you're infected with such contagious HOMERISM...
With a BAC of .065, I'm not sure who deserves the DUI more--- Mike Williams, or all the HOMERS passing around the KOOL-AID in here...
Regardless, this whole DUI thing is going to make things even worse for you guys because the BUCS are only going to use this unwanted attention to "circle the wagons" and focus even more on dissecting your hopes and dreams of keeping up in the NFC West...
DESPITE our porous run defense (just like with other teams we've faced with losing records) we will win this game too...
