RaheemMorris and his coaching staff out-coached, out-classed Singletary and his bunch. Their players outplayed ours by a very wide margin. But...there's some hope. Oh, we'll still tank the rest of the season. I predicted 6-10, but it could be worse. The hope I speak of is with the Childress firing, there's some possibility Jed has gotten fed up and will fire Singletary. I know that may be a longshot, but it's possible. I think Manusky could run the team for the remainder of the season. Without a CBA, 2011 is much in doubt, but the team simply can't go on virtually leaderless. Come on, man (to Jed)...

Manusky sucks.

Id rather rathman get his shot, im sure dude is more than capable.

In any event, a change must be made. It will be sad because I like Mike Singletary

I like Mike, just like I liked previous Mike. And, I hope that fans do not go on a character assassination kick as this season continues to torpedo.

Some guys are ready to be head coaches, and Singletary may be that man...down the road. As we saw again today, he is simply not ready.

P.S. I think we are witnessing how a guy with great motivational speaking skills, if he cannot back it up with a strong game plan, and strong discipline, eventually will see their words falls on deaf ears. This team was simply not prepared emotionally or mentally to play, and that is a shame, because there is so much talent.
The sad part of all this drama is that Singletary has some terrific attributes and I believe he WILL be a successful HC down the road. The problem is he should have been allowed to continue as an ass't HC for three or four years under a good HC - Nolan wasn't that guy. When Jed elevated MS to HC, he did not do him a favor. In the long run, that move may have set back his coaching career quite a ways.
Rathman's never even been a coordinator...it's a much easier jump from that to head coach than just a position coach. There are some exceptions, but being a coordinator's a lot more responsibility than being a RB coach. Besides, I don't believe Rathman has any desires to be a head coach. I'm not saying Manusky is ideal...but he can't be worse than Singletary. BL: Singletary must go...that's the all-important first step. Who gets promoted to be interim coach isn't critical...they won't be a permanent head coach.

We do not have the personell for a 4-3 defense.
Smith is not a 4-3 end he´s a OK 4-3 DT.
manny could play 4-3 OLB, haralson no way he´s poor at setting the edge.

Manusky is also going to be gone in 6 weeks. This whole staff is fighting for survival, but let's be real, they are all going down with Singletary.

Smith can play the strongside LDE, so I disagree that he is not a fit for the 4-3.

Manny's best year was when the Niners, under Nolan, switched back to the 4-3 at the end of the season due to injuries. He played the Sam, and was very good, especially at covering TE's.

Haralson would be a situational pass rusher at LDE, or have an occassional role as the Will for a team. I think he's about done with the team regardless. Just not enough productivity.

Right now they don't really have the personnel to play 3-4 either. Franklin isn't strong enough to play 2-gap and his slanting 1-gap technique has been well scouted and neutralized. He could be a decent 4-3 DT along with Smith and Sop. I also believe Smith could be a decent DE. The problem is the lack of a second DE.

Willis would still be a stud at MLB in 4-3 and Lawson would be better as a OLB in 4-3 than currently used. (I don't expect Lawson to seriously attempt to stay here. He is PO'd at the FO for not offering him an extension and will leave on his own, IMO.) Haralson can't cover well enough to play 4-3 and can't pass rush well enough for 3-4 - he should be a back-up/ST guy on a good team.

No matter which system the new HC prefers, they need three players to make either one work effectively.
Aloha MadDog,

Are you concidering ranking the Head Coaching prospects, including comments, like you do during the draft?

I think a lot of people are ready for that. Mahalo..........

Tomsula for interim Head Coach. I'd actually start watching the press conferences again.

I wrote this thread exactly one month ago, when the team was 2-6. Since then, we have split the past four games to go to 4-8. I still feel that there is little to nothing to learn the remaining four games in 2010, especially with the expected changes in coaching for 2011.
* Is Troy Smith the answer at QB? No.
* Are the Niners upcoming free agents worth keeping? I'm not sure any of them are worth the financial investment, and I'm not sure the final games will answer that question.
* Are the rookies progressing? Outside of Iupati (and maybe Davis in the last couple of games), it seems like the rooks are regressing from their status earlier in the year (Mays, Bowman, Williams, Dixon).

I guess the good news is that within one month we will have a new head coach.

I disagree with you M-Dog, every day that passes is closer to a whole new beginning in 9erland.

But yah, the games are pretty much pointless, and are only used to pad our players stats.

...the way the front office works, we'll be lucky to hire a new coach by the Combine.

I hope we have a list already lined up. I'm going to have blood pressure issues if we don't fix this team for next season. Heck, I may already.

I hope we do take a long look at Harbaugh. No homerism here, just acknowledgement that Jim has done a good job and has a nice staff there at Stanford.

We need a cerebral HC. Singletary looks like a straight-up dummy every week. The chess match is a loss for him every time he has to play it.
