VD is the second best TE in the NFL.

debatable, but lets not even debate that. My question is....what exactly is the big difference between the #1 TE in the NFL vs the #10 TE in the NFL

he's a freak one of a kind athlete

you average TE will be good at one thing and well average at other usually a good pass catching TE is just an OK blocker and so on

Vernon is the strongest fastest best blocking TE in the game

You don't pass on his kind of talent the end
I regret drafting Alex Smith more than any other draft pick. $50 million down the drain
Idk about this thread.

On a side note, Vikings just released Randy Moss!?

this
Cool guys. Great I got my answer.

Well we will be rebuilding again soon soon and the great Vernon will be shipped out. Next time we have a top pick lets draft another TE...obviously this strategy is working GREAT

BTW, everybody and there momma knew that you need a HOG at NT to make the 3-4 really work.

But yeah, lets leave the RARE Ngata's of the world on the board so we can have Vernon Davis over Marcedes Lewis
How much time do opposing defensive coordinators, spend game planning for Marcedes Lewis?

Didn't he just sign a contract extension???

And BTW, if you're chief argument is that we shouldn't draft a TE early, fine, that's your opinion. But you make it sound like Vernon is some kind of bust or something. He's been one of the top 2 players on offense the past year and a half and his success last year was one of the very few offensive highlights we've had. To even bring up Marcedes Lewis in the same discussion for comparison is laughable.

Did you go to UCLA or something? I like Ngata, would have been happy with him. Lewis has barely started coming into his own. However he does not have the physical abilities of Vernon, who BTW is a team captain.

Also VD's stats would be a lot better if he had better QBs and OCs.

I agree, another issue was that we didn't fully utilize Davis at first. We bulked him up too much and made him play RT during his first 3 years.

WTF kinda thread is this!
I'm not down with the whole, "#7 was too high for a TE" talk because, if you got a player that contributes to team scoring, morale, leadership, spirit and player match-up confusion, I'll take a player anywhere in the draft...I believe if you draft a player based on position to draft slot-placement, you lose. Granted he's injured at the moment, Reggie Bush is totally worth his draft placement. Those aforementioned contributions are the key to winning football games. Given that example look at how are hard it was for the Saints to win in recent weeks.

If anyone can think of any other players that fall into this catogory shout 'em out please.

Funny how when the Niners win, folks on NT go far and beyond to find something to complain about still.
