Id like to believe it....I really would. And I agree that he doesnt display the emotions needed by a real leader. However, his flaws go beyond lack of leadership. His mechanics are off. His accuracy is off. His judgment is off.

Smith lacks a lot of things good QBs develop within 5 years. Nothing's gonna change now.

When you say his mechanics are off? What do you mean specifically? Because I've heard his mechanics are better (can't remember where so you can accuse me of lying if you wish).

But I'm seriously asking what specifically, about his mechanics, are flawed, and how it's affecting his throws.

Thanks.

Fans can argue all day the issue of whether Smith should be dumped. I am no expert, so I will focus on something that I think tells us what's what. Vernon Davis, Frank Gore, and Josh Morgan have all made a point of defending Alex recently, in ways that they did not have to. If they felt he was the problem, they would not have been intervening on his behalf. It is pretty easy to jut not say something. It is pretty clear to me how these guys see it.

good point

Or they all realize that they have a limited time in which they get to play this game, Smith is the best option to get them the ball of all the players we have on our team, and if the 49ers draft a rookie next year it's assumed that their numbers will suffer for 2-3 years while the QB learns to play, during which time that QB could develop a rapport with someone other than these guys, which will make these guys less and less relevant in our offense and thus less valuable on the free agent market.
I feel bad for Alex Smith because he has been IMHO been saddled with bad coaches and this has burt him, but he has also not lived up to his status as number one overall pick. At some point you just have to look at the facts and say he does not have it.
How often does he show flashes and then dissapoint a week later?
Who cares what he does if he leaves?
He has stolen six years from us and I think that is enough..
I am sick of hearing that he has turned the corner, that he has finally shown he has gumption. That he just needs so and so, it is not his fault.
At the end of the day he is not getting the job done.
It is past time for the guy to go, nothing personal, but time to go.
I have often read on this board the point that before a GM or HC is fired you better have someone better in mind. And I agree. In the case of Alex, it is also true that before he is cut, this team should have someone better in mind. Remember, promising darft choices do not always turn out, and good FAs are usually not FAs if they are good. Be sensible.
Perhaps Smith should be raging about how our rush offense is rankeed #30th in the league...horrible.

I love how Alex is always the scape goat when our defense and rushing attack are an absolute joke right now.
Good QBs call out their players if the f**k up. Smith needs to quit being such a p***y and start calling guys out for their mistakes. Constructive criticism anyone? Our problem is that I doubt this changes, and the only way Smith ever commands anyone is on a new team... It is like if I tried to promote, most of the guys I work with would have difficult listening to me bossing them around since I have been good friends with them for the last 10 years...

This is ZRF80 we're talking about here.

If he stumbled onto Smith stroking in a dark room, he'd claim that his "mechanics" were not good.

ZRF80 knows no more about Mechanics than the average fan. He never played the position in his life (unless you count Madden), never coached the position either.

But yet here he is in the Zone making critical comments of Smith's mechanics.

He hates the guy. We all know this. You can look up Alex Smith in the Zone and probably half of ZRF80s' posts are about how Smith ... when he doesn't know any more than the average fan.

All I can say is that we should just ignore that guy. It's obvious that he's got some sort of love hate thing going for Smith.

Steve said that good players accept the blame even when they are not the culprit.

I don't think yelling at the others makes a player better. I think that tellin them to get their sh!t together makes them want to play better. And if they don't then that's the time to go to the coach and demand they sit for a bit.

Alex needs to take matters into his own hands more often.

Interesting a post like this coming to you. And what team (college or NFL) did you coach the QB on ? Or wait...let me guess....you were the starting QB on your high school team, and therefore that makes you an expert on QB mechanics.

The irony in your posts that after 6 years of listening to both you and I babble, it seems that my posts made a lot more sense than yours. Of course, you'll deny that..........cause Smith would be playing like Montana if EVERYTHING was set in place for him.

As for his mechanics, I'll respond to Lambda's post directly, as I wouldnt want to waste "evidenced" sports analysis around you.
