Bill Walsh was just....

Singletary has the frame of mind from a place long ago buried by the elite athletic ability of the players now playing. You can't run up the middle every time. You just can't. And for 5 games we have been trying this. Not just a couple times, but for 3 quarters and until our asses are kicked, our defense is tired, and our morale is gone. There is no glimmer of hope for this staff if they have gone 5 games with the same, uncreative, predictable gameplan. And for that -- I say: "f**k you, Mike"

he does have a point though.. his mentality is way out of date.

I agree. If Sing can't get it done, then things are not good... and he definitely shouldn't be compared to Walsh.

TC, I'm sorry, but I'm going to have to shoot down your optimism.

1.) Bill Walsh was 2-14 with a pathetic team. Mike Singletary is, so far, 0-5 with a team that was supposed to win the NFC West this year and be a legitimate contender in the NFC.

2.) Bill Walsh was an innovator and an excellent teacher. He also was a great talent evaluator, able to build a championship team. Meanwhile, Singletary is a motivator who needs top-notch coordinators to supplement him. I don't know if that's the case with Johnson and Manusky (though I think they're very good).

I hope things turn around though, but things don't look good.

I never compared the two head coaches. I simply pointed out Bill's stat's. Give Sing time.

That first team Walsh had was probably comparable to the team we had in 04. The cupboard was, if not bare (Cross, Fahnhorst, Solomon were there), definately pretty thin. Walsh had been a highly respected offensive coordinator and was credited with turning both Greg Cook and Ken Anderson into quality NFL quarterbacks. He had a successful stint as head coach of Stanford. His resume coming in as a coach was a whole lot better than Singletary's. His task in 79 was not to win a lot of games but to rebuild the franchise. Singletary, on the other hand, with more pieces in place than any Niner team since 2002, was tasked to win this year. There just isn't really any real comparison with the first season of Walsh with the third of Singletary.

The biggest thing is that in his third season Walsh had his team winning the Super Bowl. If he had gone 2-14 in his third season we would have never heard from him again.

Wow! You are confused my friend. You can be a real fan of the team and yet not like a specific player or coach on the team. If you see someone on the team that is bringing the team down, why would you support that person?

Your definition of a "true fan" is actually what people call a "homer":

Homer (noun): Someone who shows blind loyalty to a team or organization, typically ignoring any shortcomings or faults they have.

As for the debate, I think Sing can still salvage this but he made some poor decisions especially picking an OC (firing Martz and hiring Raye) and messing with the offensive game plan. I do, however, think we need a new QB. And no, I don't think Carr is the answer. But please, let's get a good QB for next year huh?

Einstein got d's and f's in shool. My kid gets d's and f's in school. Therefore, my kid might be the next Einstein.

Bill Walsh was 2 - 14 and then won a bunch of superbowls. We are on track for 2 - 14. Therefore, we might win a bunch of superbowls.
