According to Ozzie Newsome (Ravens GM) Smith was cut due to Baltimore's injury issues in the secondary (and how they would rather have depth over 3 QBs), it's becoming a new fad in the league to ride the 'Tecmo Superbowl' option.

I've been talking to a lot of Ravens fans and beat writers within the past 3 hours, and they were all honestly infuriated that Smith was screwed out of the #2 spot by Marc Bulger in the first place. They all say the same thing: Troy Smith was the safest backup QB option in the entire AFC North between 2008-2009.

Some are even saying that Troy Smith could woo Sing to push him to the #2 spot by mid-season (due to his insane work ethic off the field).

I live in Maryland and Raven fans believe that their 3rd stringers are starter for other teams. They do really like Troy Smith and yet fail to realize that if he were a legit starting Qb then Joe Flacco would be on the bench.

I wouldn't be surprised if Troy Smith is pushing David Carr for the backup position this season. I'm not convinced that the coaches are comfortable with Carr and they wanted to upgrade the position and it seems possible that Davis might not be completely gone.

Which is still 2 years off... Honestly, which team at this point is gonna put Davis on their roster? Maybe Indy (In which case Nate will be lucky to ever play)? I think that despite what sentiment in here is like, no one is gonna be in a real big hurry to sign a dyslexic qb with a s**tty work ethic to their active roster. Especially now that so many teams have their qb charts set. I personally think its pretty likely he clears waivers.

he is not great, he is an upgrade over Davis though

I honestly would of liked to go with 2 qb's and keep M. Robinson for STeams.
