From what I read about Troy Smith, good chance he competes with Carr for the #2 and wins it. Anyone that knows more disagree? If true, then this is a good move

Last year they cut Rossum and it cost us 3 games. Nate Davis could have challenged for the starting job in his forth year.

This is yet another myth. Rossum was injured and worthless last season so no he didn't cost us anything. Not having a solid plan B who could return is what did us in. He was out of the picture either way.

why do you say that? Smith's first year passer rating was 40.8

Smith has high discipline and low to medium potential
Davis has low discipline and medium to high potential

Discipline can be taught. potential is what it is.

Would love to know how you are calculating potential.

It's just kind of something you put out there when you can't seem to put your finger on what you're trying to say I guess.

The road to fame is littered with carcasses chalk full of "potential".
He is the f**king 3rd string QB who gives up f**k! Only in the webzone we have a full 13 or whatever pages about a dude who isn't even gunna see time on the playing field

Pump your brakes, bro. What else are we supposed to talk about???
Wow. Now we have two former No.1 overall picks and a Heisman Trophy winner as our QBs. Too bad they would only be backups (at best) on teams with loftier expectations.

Go right ahead!!!
great pickup. davis didnt want it enough to learn the playbook. troy smith is a great leader and he works his ass off. dude has a cannon for an arm and is pretty quick on his feet too. he is a project worth developing. probably be our #2 next year.

He's short, but he's good.
he will probably beat out Carr for 2nd string

all 3 of our QBs have failed to live up to expectations during their career. it's a disturbing trend.

Well said my friend.

Im not sure why people are so mad at this.

A. they are 3rd string QBs;

AND

B. Would you want a QB who can't learn the playbook in 2 years to take over your team? Especially if we change playbooks every damn year?

Nate is a career backup who will shine in the preseason because he's playing against 2nd and 3rd stringers who are playing a basic defense. He has talent but unfortunatley he probably isn't bright enough to go too far.

Plus if he isn't motivated under Sing then why not do him the favor of releasing him so he can sign on to another team.
Both have good arms, Troy is more athletic, Nates taller (but that didn't matter in last years sb), Troy is a leader (Nate is too but ball state vs. Ohio state?) the main thing is Troy doesn't have a learning disability and I truly believe that's what did Nate in. Troy made plays when he had his chance... But come on he was ay bmore.. They got lucky with flacco.
