wait...what?

edit: talking about a bye week in the playoffs

Florio (from pft) thinks our schedule is easy enough so we could potentially get a bye for the playoffs

back handed compliment
eh, there are five games in which the 49ers will be underdogs. Even if they win the remaining 11, it is not a lock that an 11-5 team will get a bye.

On top of that, a long trip to Carolina is not going to be easy even though the Panthers do not look all that strong. Also, I hate to say it, but if Jason Campbell can play at all back to his form, the Raiders will be no pushover. Their defense will win some games for them.

All of that puts even more importance on winning this first game in noisy Seattle with two rookies on the OL and a center with very limited experience calling blocking assignments. This game could go a L-O-N-G way to determining the season and playoff opportunities. A veteran team could shake off an unexpected loss early in the year but a young team, especially a young, inexperienced OL, may find it hard to shake if they lose in Seattle.

Not trying to be a hater, but I sense a tougher game than many on this board might think. Sure, Seattle doesn't have anywhere near the talent they had in the past, they're a hot mess right now as an organization and we're as talented as we've been in 10 years.

But that's meaningless when you're playing on the road to open the season, against a divisional rival with nothing to lose, a brand new coaching staff, a revamped roster and in a stadium that rocks as hard and loud as theirs.

On paper, it's not much of a contest and we should win easily. But the intangibles are on their side on this one, so I expect a much closer game than most.

I agree. The noise will wreak havoc with our rookie linemen. And despite Seattle's swiss cheese o-line, if they can hold off rusher's for just a few seconds, it might give Hasselback enough time to pick apart our sub-par secondary.

Just like last year in Seattle...they might find a way to pull it out if they can keep it close going into the 4th quarter. This will be as tough a challenge as we'll face all year in terms of the intangibles. If we can strike fast in all phases and neutralize the intangibles, we'll crush them. But, if we get into a dogfight early and we let them hang around, it will likely not end well for us.

Even then, I would expect this team to pull it out even if we are behind. Still, I agree that on paper we should kill them, but momentum is key. If we turnover and kill momentum, it will deplete our mental state especially the younger ones.

IMO, keep momentum is the key to this game. Make the play, and we win. Screw up, and we will have a hard time winning. No momentum killers please.

They had way to many last year.

Wouldn't that be sweet! I am pretty sure we will beat the hawks but the Saints? That would be a dream come true.

I expect a tough game for about a quarter plus or so. Once the rookie jitters ease and we survive their initial wave of excitement we'll start to lay the wood to them.
I'm not usually a game forecaster, BUT.........

When your best asset is home crowd noise, you are a team in trouble. And that is the case with Seattle.

The Seattle D is having nightmares about Frank Gore. He is always big vs the Seahawks.

Eight in the box? Meet #77.

Hasselbeck is wincing and losing sleep with the thought of Patrick Willis drilling him in the small of the back again.

Let's get this party started! Put some points up early, then crush them with f-isicality in the second half. By the time the gun sounds at the end of this one, most of those "noisy" Seattle fans will be 30 miles down the freeway.

Roll Niners!

Hasselbeck is thinking of Willis' sack of Farve in the 3rd preseason game... and knows his line isn't anywhere as good!

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=NfGZsPLDkY8&feature=player_embedded

bet he wishes he would have remember this when we played them early last year.

LOL @ them debating who will lay the hit on Willis as payback. if any of their players wants a date with IR, they can try laying a hit on the human brick wall Patrick Willis.

i love how these pansies are calling our fans classless for cheering patrick willis hit on hasselbeck. they make it out like people at the stick are bloodthirsty but they would do the same thing if it was smith getting killed instead of hass. or if that game where rocky bernard's punk ass killed smith and set us back a couple years... i gaurantee they would be ecstatic to see our QB go down like that. f**k em. willis and co will hit him and hit him often so hasselbeck better get his pampers ready.

Actually, we don't. Next time you see an injury on the field at Qwest, pay particular attention to the crowd.

Who cares whether we get any respect or not? Win games. go to playoffs, build team, win more games. Respect aint worth a pint of piss in a watermelon patch in the NFL. Its all about winning Lombardi's.

I know the pre-season doesn't mean much, but keep in mind that when the starters walked off the field when my Seahawks played at Minnesota a couple weeks ago, we had the lead and had kept the Vikings to one TD. It was a shock. I'm not saying we have a good O-line; we need more building there, for sure. Okung being out in the opener is a problem, too; but I'm not sure you guys are as likely to beat us as you think.

Also, if it turns out to be Walter Jones raising the 12th man flag on Sunday...your ears will hurt even through the TV set in San Fran. That will be hugely motivational; if he's the one raising it that day.

Yep. I understand the pre-season deal. I do take some stock in the 1-3 series of the third game (as long as starters are in), otherwise I'd never use a pre-season game to "brag" about a team. We will see on Sunday. I'm never shocked to see upsets in the first week of the NFL, so you definitely have a shot to win.

The quarter back must go down, and go down hard.
