San Francisco 49ers and Seattle Seahawks fans were furious with FOX on Sunday after the network's Week 5 NFC West coverage left many viewers missing a significant portion of the first quarter.
FOX named the 49ers-Seahawks matchup its "America's Game of the Week," but the network kept airing the overtime game between the New York Giants and Washington Commanders until it ended in a 27-27 tie. For some, FOX even switched from another contest to the Giants-Commanders game.
As a result, many fans missed much of the opening quarter of the 49ers' game against the Seahawks at Lumen Field. That included Renardo Green's interception of Sam Darnold, Brock Purdy's touchdown pass to Mike Evans, Jacob Cowing's muffed punt that resulted in a turnover, and Seattle's first score of the game.
That's a lot of action to miss while waiting for the Giants and Commanders to settle a game that neither team ultimately won.
Even many who paid big bucks for NFL Sunday Ticket could not watch because the game was supposed to be the local broadcast, so they had to sit through the overtime stalemate, too.
Fortunately, FOX eventually switched to the 49ers-Seahawks game, but by then, many viewers had already missed several key plays from a highly anticipated NFC West showdown. Fans made their displeasure known on social media and in our forums.
