Can you see Zeigler becoming our #2?

We have a huge drop off in talent at receiver after Crabtree. I consider Tai Streets better than Morgan and Streets was a third option. Then again, so is Morgan behind Vernon and Delanie.

That is what I keep saying. I think it was in this thread that I made that point. After Crabtree, we still have one of the least talented collections of receivers in the league. We definitely need to look into getting a new receivers coach and drafting more talent at the position. I'm not looking forward to playing against DeSean Jackson this year...

I disagree, our offence is run 1st and that’s where Morgan’s strength is, run blocking. Secondly Alex throws majority of his passes to TE’s and RB’s. I think this year Morgan will pass most people’s expectations. Like everything else though it depends on Alex………

Wide receiver.
At the beginning of training camp, four players - Brandon Jones, Jason Hill, Dominique Zeigler and Kyle Williams - were competing for perhaps two spots. Jones is out of the running and Williams is out with a toe injury. (He was seen walking in a boot today). But while Williams has been recuperating, no one has stepped forward to take his place as the top punt returner. Bobby Guillory has a similar skill set to Williams, but after muffs in Indianapolis and against Minnesota, he cannot be considered a regular-season option. Mike Singletary also has said he'd rather not give Ted Ginn that role. Which means that at this juncture Williams is still a safe bet to make the squad even if he sits out the rest of the preseason. Meanwhile, Zeigler has been decidedly more productive than Hill in both practices and games. Williams and Zeigler appear to be the fourth and fifth receivers at this point.

Chicago has a lot better receivers than us, so I doubt they're in need. But I do agree on Hill. I prefer him over Morgan as well, but all accounts make it seem as if he is on his way out. My money says he ends up on the Hawks if he gets cut.
Please enlighten me. After Devin Hester, who does Chicago have as far as wideouts?

Morgan is in there because when the ball comes his way he can catch it and he is a plus run blocker. He is currently the 4th option on passing plays IMO (Crabs, Davis, Gore then Morgan). That allows smith to work his way from one side of the field to the other. Notice how there hasn't been one mention of his job being up for grabs at all this preseason, thats for a reason.

Isn't Zeigler only 130 pounds? He won't hold up to a 16 game NFL schedule if he were a starter, #2 receiver.

130?!?!?!? LOL!
He's 6'3", 180. Still though, I agree with you, I can't see him holding up (or being all that productive) as an NFL starter.

I believe Zeigler will for sure make the team and be the #3 or #4 WR. He will see significant playing time. Jason Hill is the odd man out.

I think people forget who the OC is and his phillosophy, it is KC west. VD is TG and GOre is the power back. That is why VD got so many catches for TD, the Tightend is favored.
It is silly to think that Zig can't hold up cause he is 185 lbs, being 200lbs doesn't mean you'll hold any better, if you look at other wr, I am sure you will find other like zig. The thing is zig is a big target (not weight wise, but the area he presents because of height and wing span.

Exactly. And as a QB, it is a major asset to have a good route runner with solid hands. With that said, it sounds like Morgan had a great day in practice yesterday. Hopefully all of our WRs play lights out this season. Competition tends to raise the bar!

Highlight reels don't make NFL players, Knox is fast, but he is pretty small, I'll take Ted Ginn. Aromashadu has potential but I'd still take Morgan over him, he's made better highlight reels.
See Rams 2008. None of the people you mentioned have really done much as a WR, Knox made the majority of his plays as a returner, but he did have one nice long catch during the season. Niners top 3 WR > Bears top 3 WR every day of the week son!
