Hasbro's Transformers x NFL collaboration has delivered a unique collectible for San Francisco 49ers fans. One of the toy maker's latest releases, Goldrush, is a 5.5-inch action figure that transforms from an Autobot into a surprisingly detailed 49ers helmet, considering its size.
The first wave of the Transformers x NFL line featured figures inspired by the Dallas Cowboys, Green Bay Packers, Kansas City Chiefs, and Pittsburgh Steelers. The 49ers join the second wave alongside the Buffalo Bills and Minnesota Vikings.
At around $30, Goldrush is reasonably priced by today's action figure standards. Whether you're a lifelong 49ers fan who grew up collecting Transformers or a newer fan looking for a unique display piece, this collectible offers a fun blend of football and nostalgia.
The figure is currently available here on Amazon but can likely be found at retailers such as Target and Walmart, depending on availability.
While many modern Transformers figures tend to appreciate in value over time, the first wave of NFL-themed releases—originally launched in December 2025—can still be found at their initial-release prices.
Build quality
Once out of the packaging, Goldrush feels comparable in quality to other modern Transformers figures. It's primarily constructed of plastic but features several impressive details, especially considering its size. The 49ers logo is prominently displayed on the helmet—and on the arms in robot mode—while the iconic helmet stripes become part of Goldrush's chest armor in robot mode.
Articulation is solid, allowing Goldrush to stand securely on its own in robot form. The figure also includes a pair of accessories that add to the display options.
And yes, for anyone wondering, Goldrush is an Autobot. In fact, every figure released in the Transformers x NFL line so far has been an Autobot. Some 49ers fans might argue Hasbro missed an opportunity by not making the Cowboys or Chiefs version a Decepticon.
Accessories
Goldrush includes two accessories. The first is a football, which is prominently displayed inside the packaging. It's a fun addition if you plan to display the figure, although younger collectors may find it's the first piece to disappear. By the way, Goldrush, in his packaging, gives off "The Catch" vibes, with the robot displayed reaching for the football accessory.
The football attaches securely to Goldrush's hands using small pegs. There is even a dedicated spot to attach it when in helmet mode (it attaches via a peg inside the chin strap).
The second accessory is a mini football helmet that fits over Goldrush's head in robot form. Does a robot really need a helmet? Probably not—but it's a fun extra. Unfortunately, it only appears to fit figures in the Transformers x NFL line. Again, perhaps a missed opportunity to stick a 49ers-style helmet on an Optimus Prime figure.
Unlike the football, there doesn't appear to be a dedicated storage location for the mini helmet when the figure is transformed into helmet mode, making it easier to misplace over time. Additionally, it comes off the head very easily (often unintentionally) in robot mode, so you may lose it either way.
Transformation
Like most modern Transformers toys, Goldrush features a more intricate transformation process than many fans may remember from the 1980s and 1990s. Fortunately, it's still relatively straightforward compared to many current Transformers releases.
The transformation requires 23 steps to switch between robot and helmet modes, and the included instructions are clear and easy to follow. Still, with all the twists and turns involved in the process, it could become frustrating for some.
The process does include a bit of parts-forming, meaning one piece must be removed and reattached elsewhere. Specifically, the lower portion of the facemask is detached and stored on Goldrush's back while in robot mode. Since the piece has a designated place in both configurations, it's unlikely to get lost, but it's worth noting for any collectors who aren't fans of parts-forming.
As expected with a transforming helmet, there are a few visible gaps in helmet mode. They aren't particularly distracting, but collectors planning to display Goldrush exclusively as a helmet should be aware of them.
Final verdict
Overall, Goldrush is a fun, well-designed collectible that successfully combines two iconic brands. It's exactly the kind of toy I would have loved as a kid.
My youngest son, who has become a die-hard 49ers fan and sports enthusiast, will likely enjoy this figure, whereas someone like me might just place it on my work desk in helmet form. Fortunately, my son is old enough to appreciate it without breaking it—the figure is recommended for ages 8 and up.
If you're both a 49ers fan and a Transformers enthusiast, Goldrush is an easy recommendation. It offers a fun dose of nostalgia, solid build quality, and a very unique way to show off your team pride.
