Boone vs Snyder

i think both will. i think wragge will get cut. the reason being this- boone has way more potential at Tackle and his showing progression. Synder is a solid backup at both Tackle AND Gaurd, but hes at his ceiling. Boone is only a Tackle, but has more physical ability. **The thing here is, Baas will be gone next year. We already have his replacement in Iupati. We need a backup. Synder will be needed next season unless we think we'll draft another Gaurd.

So, in my opinion, I think it's really between Synder and Wragge. And Synder will edge him out due to versatility. I just think it will be hard to let Boone go. I'm sure if he goes to PS, someone else will sign him. And then you have to consider next year- Will Barry Simms still be here? Doubt it. So, it would be nice if Boone was ready to be a direct backup. So, to me, Synder and Boone are both too valuable given that next year Baas will be gone and Simms may be gone. And yes, Baas will be gone. He will get a huge contract with another team. And we won't match it- He just hasn't been that good. Or healthy.
Wragge is just as versatile as Snyder because they both can play two positions. And Wragge is our only true backup center. I know Baas played center in college but that was 5 years ago and he's too big to play it now. I don't count Wallace because I think he has no chance of making the roster.
Snyder was terrible ot ROT last season. We would have been better off with a scarecrow than Snyder..

I saw the interview with Boone and he looked and sounded great. I hope he makes it to the roster this year. It would a good story considering how screwed he was when he got here.

Sing saves another one. He may have even saved Lawrence Phillips.

Not to mention, Sing walks on water too!

Too bad he couldn't save Snyder though. MS talked him up in the preseason last year and then Snyder proceeded to make him seem a little foolish come actual game performance. I'm sure Singletary has not forgotten.

I'd imagine Singletary would love to see Boone step up and take the position away from Snyder and he will be given every opportunity to do so. We'll see. It'll be an interesting story to follow. Hope it's not a fizzle.
I really hope the coaching staff doesn't site Snyder's "versatility" and ability to suck a$$ at any of 4 positions for us as the reason to keep him on the 53 over Boone. Boone clearly has more upside and Snyder has proven to be a failure.

Out with the old in with the new, Sims is our real backup OT why not let him and Staley groom Boone?

Same here.

IF, for some reason, Davis can't solidify his position as the RT, at least initially, I'd expect Boone to be the guy. Snyder has already proven that he CAN'T effectively play the RT position.

Still, we would have nice depth across the entire line. I love the fact that Solari and Brown are already leaving their mark on Davis and Iupati. If they can mold those rookies, I am sure they can do the same for Boone. There is some potential especially at RT backup.

Finally, depth at OL, may I say possibly our strongest unit? Still, what a 180 for a unit. Very similar to our secondary in 1980. Infuse young talent with attitude and blamo! instant transformation. Nice to know Boone's a part of it.
Snyder is decent as a guard and he can play tackle in a pinch( although not very well).
Hopefully Davis wins the job outright and then we can have Snyder as a backup guard and Boone as Davis' backup
Statistically speaking, Snyder was one of the worst tackles in all of football last year and he hasn't exactly set the league on fire as a guard either. So if it comes down to AS or Boone, you have to give Boone a shot. You literally can't do much worse.

snyder can not play tackle at all he allowed the most sacks last year and he didnt even play all 16 games

I would agree with this but I do think that we can get away with placing Boone on the practice squad. If Davis is out for a game, would you be comfortable with Boone replacing him? I know I'm not..

too early to say, haven't seen what Boone can actually do, but I can't imagine Snyder has much of a future with this team.

Or the team tells baas that he doesnt figure into the teams long term plans and let him go....Snyder then can backup at both guard and tackle,

RT Davis, Simms, Boone
G Rachal, Snyder
C Heitmann, Wallace, Wragge
G Iupati, Wragge, Snyder
LT Staley, Simms, Snyder[b]

I wouldn't be any more comfortable with Snyder over Boone. Snyder stunk it up like no other last year, and I don't think Boone or any other tackle would be much of a drop-off compared to Snyder's lack of production. Boone has more upside than Snyder and the only thing Snyder has over Boone is experience, but the only experience he really has is at sucking balls on the football field. Experience doesn't matter when you're simply not capable of doing your job.

I'll take Boone over Snyder.

Very true. Snyder is the jack of all trades but the master of none.

Well said.

who would we put on our OL to have a full 9 man line without either of these guys?
