I'm happy our entire unit is getting in on the action.

LOL! Read this thread.

44 sacks is bad.
6 players with 4 or more sacks is bad.
etc.
etc.

Some are convinced that every other team but the Niners has a 100% consistent and excellent pass rush - down in and down out, game in and game out.

A poster above nailed it: NT is mad because we don't have "that guy" - a one person sack machine.

While, as also mentioned above, you can NEVER have too many good pass rushers (and the team should always be looking to upgrade that position), the pass rush was not among the teams worst problems last year, IMO.

I was about to write you a really long response explaining why you're wrong, but since you are too stubborn to really look at stats, it's not even worth it.

we had the 3rd most sacks in the NFL last year, and youre saying our pass rush is mediocre?

now whos ignorant?

so what? the Browns have 3 sacks less than us and nobody, in their right mind, will say that they have a legit pass rush. Even the Raiders, Bears, and Cards are right behind us. Do any of those defenses scare you? Consistency is the key word here. We racked up a bunch of sacks playing the worst division in football.

like one guy mentioned, we had several games where their OLine was a turnstyle. which boosted the numbers. our pass rush is not bad, but we need a guy who will collapse the pocket from the inside. and who knows maybe a rangy safety will do the job.

Actually, we need better coverage from the strong safety position.

That would allow us to bring our inside backers more frequently on ILB blitzes.

The problem with our team on the defensive side of the ball in the last half of the season is that we lost Nate. He's not as physically gifted as other #1 corners, but he's one of the best at pressing receivers and jumping routes. With Nate gone, Manusky was less willing to bring inside pressure for fear of getting beat deep (especially with a new starter at FS and Roman filling in at SS). That changed the mentality of our defense...and they weren't able to get back the same spark they had early in the year.

As it oertains to sacks, Manusky is building a pass rush the smart way...with scheme. A scheme pass rush works because it is easier to replace one guy in an effective scheme than a superstar that does it all by himself.

I like this

Correction: Jaguars, not lions.

Ugh...not again.

Okay let me edumacate you!

Who was the best pass rushing in team in 09? Steelers. Let's look at the consistent pass rush of the Steelers that dominated every game with it's pass rush.

Titans= 1 Sack
Bengals= 1 Sack
Oak= 1 Sack
Cleveland= 1 Sack
GB= 1 Sack

Lions= 7 Sacks
Chiefs=5 Sacks
Ravens=5 Sacks
Raves(2nd time)= 4 Sacks

link.

Fluke right? Well lets take a look at the #2 team with the most sacks last year (Vikings).

49ers=1 Sack
AZ= 0 Sacks
Bengals=1 Sack
Panthers=1 Sack

Cleveland= 5 Sacks
Packers=9 Sacks
Steelers=4 Sacks
GB=6 Sacks
Bears= 4 Sacks

link

So no I don't buy the myth that you get sacks/pressure every game, not even the best teams do it, this is not Madden, this is the NFL.

and this has already been debated and /closed.

Good post man, we have some posters here ignorant of reality.

lol, you guys are missing the point.
We did so-so. Those numbers are mis-leading though. I can't remember off the top of my head, but it was written that a LARGE number of those sacks came from a couple games against awful teams like the Rams, Seahawks, and Lions. Meaning, we had a couple MONSTER sack days against teams with no o line.

So, really, our o line is so so. It's good, but not great. If those total sacks numbers came from game to game fairly consistantly, I'd say we had a great pass rush.

But in reality- We had a couple GREAT games. The rest of the games were just OK.
Sure our pass rush has improved steadily the last couple years, but no way has this team arrived or reached a level where we aren't trying to improve. Lawson has recovered from his injury to become prettty decent. Brooks showed flashes of becoming a pretty decent rusher on passing situations. Haralson is too inconsistant imo, and this is the spot we need to upgrade.

Brandon Graham at #17 makes all the sense in the world! He would help take our pass rush to another level and can possibly become the stud pass rusher we've been lacking.
our pass rush is a result of team work and schemes. You want a Pepper's type player, so did the panther's. now what do they have?
Aaron Brooks looks solid for you guys.

I agree, its a result of schemes and coaching. For example.. in the greenbay, and Atlanta game, they were ready for our schemes and (mostly in the atl game) we couldn't do s**t.

I like what we have, and I'm sure it can only get better, especially if we get another SS back there with goldson. Then we can turn more than just 1-2 lb's loose on a blitz.

we have a great pass rush people just want to see a stud with 15 sacks a season.

We need consistent pressure which we do not generate. I mean didnt we get like 9 sacks in one game and like 7 in another? We disapeard in some games and had zero pressue even while blitzing.

i think that isn't the players fault its the coaches, and the scheme we ran
