The "We have to sign our guys" smoke screen

I'm so tired of this BS argument. I would like to point out several things.

1. "Our guys" are really only Willis and V.Davis and maybe (I doubt) Franklin. Goldson, Manny and a couple others are second tier FA (They shouldn't break the bank).

2. "Our guys" are very high draft picks (6,11). So they probably already have a relatively large salary. So I'm assuming that when we sign them to a long term deal we are also subtracting the salaries they are currently earning. That makes sense to me.

3. If 2010 was a capped year we would of been 50 million under the cap. I think we've saved enough and have plenty of catching up to do.

4. Outside of Clements (and maybe J.Smith) most of our FA aquisitions have been on the cheap. It's not like our roster is exploding with talent, see point 3. So why are we so broke when teams like the Jets, Dolphins and a few others continue to add talent? Are they all stupid and headed for cap hell?

5. We dont even have a big name QB taking up cap space.

6. If signing Willis and Davis means we can't sign any other great/good free agents than I would just as well see them walk ( really am saying this tongue in cheek).

It was Scotty and Yorks that first fed us this line, dont you think we should at least examine it's merrit?

At the end of the day I get the feeling the Yorks are more interested in running this like a business than winning Super Bowls. Please dont use that statement to assume I mean they should be spending without regard.
I know I'm so tired of hearing that too. If we had such a good roster we would have made the playoffs. The Yorks are just cheap and don't give a damn about winning
To be honest I love what we are doing right now. Why should we over pay for players that wont make an impact for our team. see Brandon Jones.

We have to keep building threw the draft becoause our core is good enough to win now. This team is turning into a machine and im ready for domination for the next 5 years. GO NINERS.

Regardless of how you feel about the direction of the team, I talking specifically about whether or not we really can't sign any other big names because "we have to sign or guys."

I generally agree with your statement. We should have a pretty good core of guys since we've been drafting in the high first for number of years now.

The only thing I dont get is why not go after a proven Vet Running back? If/when Gore gets hurt I dont want to leave our play off run season in the hands of Coffee.

Also, how about a vet G or T for back up?
The only place i'd like to add some veterans is the o-line.

Im actually higher on Glen Cofee then most. The dude was born in 1987 hes just a kid. If the niners say they like him then so do I. Imagin being born in 1987 going up against some of the grown azz men in the NFL? Cofee will be just fine.

I'm sure the Yorks would love to clone you a million times over....lol....sheepeople.
This is a deep class of RBs. Thomas Jones makes sense, but the team has mentioned that Gore is sensative to losing touches, so I can see the hesitation with Jones because he'll expect to be the #1.

Scott has mentioned drafting a RB with a different style and this draft has some good big backs and some quicker ones that can double as a returner for us.

Also, if there were some quality Olinemen availble, we'd surely be in the mix, but there just isn't. One of our 1sts will almost certainly be an OT. Plus, based on reports, we've been interviewing several other OTs that are mid-round picks.

Why not Willy Parker? I dont think he expects to be number 1 at this point. I would even take Justin Fargas. I really dont care what Gore thinks. The team comes first. He can't be selfish.

good post....tend to agree. However, some on here think we should go hard after every FA, and I think that is retarded.
i have been feeling the same way since the start of free agency when the 49ers had good ownership and gm when eddie d in charge we won we spent the money to get impact player free agent acquisitions the super bowl year we signed ken norton and deion sanders without those player no championship you have to spend if you want to contend the 49ers are way under the salary cap last year no free agent starters signed last year this year there is no salary cap advantage teams who did not make playoffs can spent as much as they want sign whatever players they want if eddie d was owner we would have signed peppers and darren sharper traded for cromratie and maybe bring back t.o trade for vick sign antonio bryant but this is the yorks they know nothing about championships were not improving our team other teams are we losing before the season has even started the we have to sign our guys lies is tired so does every other team in the nfl but every other team is spending except us
Wait a minute everyone knows that you build from the draft and fill quick fixes through free agency. Our team is building it's talent the right way. Look at all the teams that build with quick fixes. They go to the playoffs or just miss the playoffs everyone talks about how great they'll be next season and by the end of next season you forget all about them.

You clearly missed my point.

Example everyone should be looking at is the Steelers....They rarely if ever0 make a big FA splash. They try to resign their players and build with the draft. Next example would be the redskins....They spend money left and right(this year seems to be a little different) and they suck every year..

would you rather have the track record of the steelers or the redskins over the last 15 years?
Stay tuned for double face palm.
