Scott has mentioned drafting a RB with a different style and this draft has some good big backs and some quicker ones that can double as a returner for us.
Also, if there were some quality Olinemen availble, we'd surely be in the mix, but there just isn't. One of our 1sts will almost certainly be an OT. Plus, based on reports, we've been interviewing several other OTs that are mid-round picks.
no he wouldn't

You clearly missed my point.
just because you have money to spend doesnt mean you go out and sign 30 year old DE's to 6 year contracts with 40 million guarenteed.....They are on the down side of their career...With most FA's you dont get what you pay for

Alright I'll give you that because I'm assuming. Though, he'll still want to be paid like a top Rb because his production warrants it. Plus, he's at the twilight of his career. He's going to want to sign where he thinks he'll get the most touches. Someone like Detroit or Seattle will probably lock him up soon.

Why not Willy Parker? I dont think he expects to be number 1 at this point. I would even take Justin Fargas. I really dont care what Gore thinks. The team comes first. He can't be selfish.
Parker was criticized and benched because they thought he lost his speed. For a small Rb that's not good.
Fargas is interesting. I've always liked him. I just think the team is targeting guys in the draft. I would guess that most of these vet Rbs will hang around until after the draft. This is a good class of rookies and teams would prefer to grab a younger back.

Building through the draft and signing free agents are not mutually exclusive . . . although some people try to make you think they are sometimes.
That is why you should draft the BPA, and sign free agents to fill immediate needs.
That way you can be competitive today, and tomorrow.

Theres an argument to both sides.
Free agency can help teams win fast for example the Saints.....but look how old they are they will not last.
On the other hand look at the Steelers and Colts they may not win it all everyyear but they are always in the mix because of they way they build there teams.
The 49ers are doing it the right way. for the long term, and im all for that.

Seriously, some of you guys need to take a reading comprehension class. A course in basic logic wouldn't hurt either.

Dude, 8 years of a losing record (or 8-8) is NOT the right way any way you slice it.
I would also ad that by all accounts we should win the west, so why not try and make it to the SB? Once in the playoffs anything can happen.

You're right. The Niner brass is using the "sign our own guys" line for some political cover.
In addition to that they should be saying that due to an uncapped year the top-tier UFA market is even more inflated than usual and we're not going to participate.
But "sign our own guys" is easier to sell.

agree with both
i have been upset with scott and the way hes lagging when theres players we need but i agree how we are trying to look forward to the future years instead of this year only.
i rather be playoff contenders every year and work our way to the superbowl then go to the superbowl one year and completely collapse after that.
