It's the offseason, and I'm snowed in right now, so I thought I would make a post about a guy who really doesn't get that much focus. I think that most 49er fans were disappointed with his play this season. He had some good plays, mostly near the end of the season, but was not overly consistent. It seemed to me that once he was named the starter, his attitude changed. He made some big plays in his rookie season, and looked a lot faster as well. This past year, he looked a lot slower. Another thing that stands out to me, is he seems to have poor body language sometimes. I see him celebrate when we score TD's, but sometimes he looks to me to be unhappy on the field, like hes mad that the ball wasn't thrown to him or something. That's just me though. I think were going to have a 3 way battle for that 2nd reciever spot this year. And I'm not entirely sure that he's going to beat out hill and Jones. What do you guys think?

Morgan is fine. He doesn't get the double like Davis and Crabs gets. Just need to pass block better so he can get more touches. Decent two receiver, especially as he matures.

Which was one of the early indicators that Mike Singletary was a bad coach. When Hill finally got on the field last year, he scored 2 TDs in one game and showed that he was quite possibly the best WR on the team. After that performance, he was sent back to the bench where he has essentially remained ever since.

Singletary does not put the best talent on the field and does not utilize our players correctly. In turn, we underachieve.

He did put the players out there to achieve his ideal offense. But as you stated that was using one demensional players and using many guys incorrectly.

Which means he MAY be able to get it together. I really think effort is the problem, just learning to be a true PRO day in and day out, he could be very good. Until then I'd like to see some other guy's get a few more snaps.

Well let him work on his issues while he's not playing a key roll as a starter. I want to see Ginn and Ziegler get more playing time.

morgan is a very good number 2 WR. ginn and Z are probably better in the slot.

Crabtree
Week 1: 2 REC, 12 YDS

I would argue that Morgans grabs are just as or more impressive than Crabtree's, plus he doesn't have a piss poor attitude like Crabtree does doesn't fight with teammates, doesn't hold out of contracts. It seems like he just wants to play. He made a hell of a grab on our last drive.

Any thoughts?

How is he supposed to catch balls when Alex continues to roll out of the pocket every time he feels pressure?

I think the chain movers had more passes thrown their way than Morgan.

BTW- Interference should have been called on the first play of the game. Look at the film

I can't get behind Morgan. He makes stupid selfish penalties and gives up on routes. He sucks.

No one can completely judge a receiver when the QB is a question mark or inconsistent, or missing open looks.

Josh Morgan is a good #2 receiver. Our receiving corps is good. Get a better qb in there and both our receivers go from good to very good. The potential is there, just needs to be unlocked with better play from the qb position.

Just look at the Vikings. Moss comes in but their QB is still playing inconsistent. They have 3 of the best offensive weapons in the league and cannot do anything because Favre wants to be Hero Favre instead of consistent Favre.

It's also evident that the Niners as a whole lack team speed. Morgan's lack of speed hurts us and it's one of the main reasons why our offense can't get untracked.

Our offense can't get on track because of stupid penalties. Receivers need qb's to look good.
