Instant Gratification? Wow. Here I thought we were in a historical drought

the lions are a historical drought.

And when given total control, STILL didn't address this at all?

Nope.

I'm with you on this that if McCloughan doesn't draft at least 1 lineman with our first 2 picks then i'll start to lose faith in him.

Of course, this can be forgiven if we make a push to the playoffs.

pathetic. I hate when zoners do this. Who cares if there are a few teams out there worst than the Niners? The point is the Niners have SUCKED. And they have SUCKED for a very LONG time. Wanting that to stop might have been instant gratification 5-10 yrs ago. But since 2006 or so, the last thing you can call a Niner fan is impatient or wanting instant gratification

Insanity; the act of doing the same thing over and over again expecting a different result. yes this best describes what the 49ers have been doing theese last couple of years. [facepalm]

you do realize thats not what insanity means but just coloquial "definition" put out by einstein.

the only continuity this team has had over the least 7 hears is change. time to stop that.

I do realize that yet I personally see that the current situation at hand merits the quote.

They change OCs every year expecting the new one to work out well yet the new one finds new ways to fail. and again does not learn from the past.

They keep on going into a QB battles with QBs that are at best bench warmers ie Trent Dilfer, Alex Smith, Shaun hill, Ken Dorsey, TIm Rattay do I need to go on.

They Promise us year oafter year that we will be a playoff team, which has not yet been fulfilled.

Do I need to give you more reasons? I just dont see the the difference in change when all the team does is band aid the situation.

On the insanity quote, good. I know of many people that think it's the actual definition

promise of playoffs year after year is fine, its marketing. but you also need to know if the team really has a shot to be a playoff team. In 05, no shot. In 06, we were close becaue of the weak nfc west. Really, thats where everything went wrong. everyone thought because a 7-9 team was close to getting in that they were good. They werent and have steadily gotten more and more talent on this team. It just needs to come togther.

And to be honest, Nolan and McCloughan proposed a 5 year rebuild. Next year would be that year that everything needs to come together. Of course, they also expected that they'd have the same OC.

On the insanity quote again lets just say I googled it
As for the promise of the Playoffs I do not give my word or make promises often, I only make promises that I can keep! My father taught me that and told me to meassure a man by his words and actions. I would not discuss 05-08 they were dark times Also as for getting more talent I am not going to get into the D Jackson debacle we would have been in better shape with him than crabs!

Also this is professional sports you get paid big money because you have the least room to make mistakes! And by far at times it looks like are team is run by Citi Bank Simply put 5 years ago they promised accountabilty which is barely starting to show up as an organization. So excuse me if I feel that what Einstein said about insanity relates to our team, because at times it would not be a bad idea to have some sort of intelligence let alone having the team listen to there players and fans...

Simply put I feel that the 49ers are not listening to the ones that make the team us the FANS, we buy season tickets we buy merchandise we eat sleep and think 49ers well some years we do other years we DRINK! excuse my Rant. Those are my $.02, keep the change.

The question is what will be the excuse for not making the playoffs next year? Does he really think Sing and Raye are going to take us to the playoffs?
Fans are always looking for a scapegoat for a season that didn't go as planned. It doesn't matter whether it's a player, a coach, GM or a HC.

Someone just has to be fired in their eyes so that their emotions can be taken out on a person losing a job - no matter how direct their contribution was to the loss or whatever legitimate reason there may be for retaining them.

It's the only way that some fans can feel good about the upcoming season, "Lookey, shiny new QB, he'll fix our problems! Yeah!"

We've done this for the past 7 years and it has not worked yet people want to push the reset button.

And for every firing that doesn't occur as everybody desires, it's all the regular doom and gloom.

I guess he's an Alecks luhving apologizt too...

I know you are joking Lambda... but I mean when York says that Alex is improving everytime he steps on the field, my face just turns into this

about the game that ended our season, York says "he didn't play great"...yes we ALL know that....but then adds "he didn't play terrible" again my face = ..... didn't play terrible????

how come they just don't say, yes he needs to improve, simple as that..... "that game in Philli was unacceptable but we expect him to improve".... simple as that... DON'T BS... its like they think we are dumb ......they must think 9ertalk = 49erNation.

finally!

A concept wasted on some of the morons that want to change every year, not realizing in their ignorance that it is why we are where we are.

I'm not looking for a scapegoat, I'm looking for responsibility.

I have posted here about this issue last January about how the OL needs to be addressed. It's not the first season we've had abysmal play from the OL. Snyder has been average for a long time, a bench player, NEVER a starter and good Lord, NEVER a starting tackle.

We signed Marvel Smith who hadn't played a down in 2 seasons and I posted along with others that this was a monumentally bad move because (1) it wastes a lot of time despite it being a great deal and prevents us from replacing him with another viable candidate who can at least practice and (2) if the gamble fails you have no depth at the position.

Scott and Singletary waited until August for Smith to retire which was a "shock" to Scott. When that happened, so went the season IMHO. Gore again didn't have holes and the QB didn't have protection. Yes Baas and especially Rachal have been bad, but Snyder hasn't helped one, single bit.

Scott to admit he gambled, the line suffered as a result and he's going to do something about it. We've heard NOTHING on this and notice Scotty isn't doing any interviews since Marvel "shockingly" retired.

I'm not sure if Smith was ever expected to be given a starting role. To me, it was simply a low risk, (potential) high reward signing. I personally thought he was going to be limited to bench duty. He wasn't signed for much money, so I don't think it was a big loss.

IIRC, there weren't many good starting caliber OTs in FA that were worth pursuing. If there were, I would have been shocked that we didn't pursue them. And yes, I was surprised that we didn't draft any OTs, but we didn't draft any OLBs either and yet our pass rush has been quite better than expected.

One key point that I think you're missing is that Scott and Singletary were hoping that Snyder could evolve into a RT. Snyder himself said that he would play well if he was just left at one position. Unfortunately, it hasn't worked out, and it's time to look to the draft again.

So by your logic blow it all up and change every year until we have a playoff appearance? You know who does that...the lions...how's that working out for them? The reason the team has been bad is lack of continuity, you cannot change OC's every year, change QB's every year, change HC's every year and ever be any good. Sometimes you have to bite the bullet and let things that you have no control of happen (as if you could change anything anyways). We are one year into a new coaching staff and you want to blow it up again? Yeah let's do that because it has worked out so well for the past 7 years and 7 OC's. It isn't really hard to predict a team is going to be bad when it is in a constant state of flux, that is no brilliant flash of insight, it is just common sense. What is pathetic is thinking that you can rant on a message board and it is going to make a difference. That and patting yourself on the back for predicting that the team was going to suck for the past seven years.
I agree with Jed we need continuity, and no major changes are needed.

Sing, Scot, Alex, Manusky and yes even Raye must stay, we need to keep it together for more than a season.

But we need to add more players, thru the draft and FA, we should target OL in both, and then look towards the DL and playmakers.

and this notion that Yorks dont spend it BS, look at Nate Clements, Justin Smith, M.Lewis, Staley, Giving big deals to Draftees, like Crabtree, Alex.

Pennding extensions for VD , Gore and Willis.

Yes he has gotten cheap deals, but thats good management, look at Browns extension, others like Goldson and McDonalds soon to be extensions IMO.
