Agreed, especially with Shaw unavailable. With this being Harbaugh's first NFL HC gig he's going to need all the back-up he can get. I'm sure Roman is capable but he's never been an OC at any level and Drevno was an OC at DII San Diego U . . . not exactly the big time. An if Roman and Drevno are brought in, and neither becomes the OC, where do they coach? The majority of their coaching experience is at o-line . . . which doesn't bode well for Solari and Brown to stick around if Callahan is brought in.

I'm dying to see how it all comes together.

I wouldn't discount Roman. He was the supposed "brains" for Harbaugh at Stanford and according to most reports the one guy Harbaugh wanted to bring along with him.

Very versatile, bright young coach. Has 13yrs of NFL coaching experience and learned the WCO in Carolina from Siefert, Gill Haskell and Bill Musgrave. Also worked under Billick in Baltimore. I read somewhere that Roman was responsible for designing and CALLING most running plays for Stanford the last 2 yrs.

yea but we're talking west coast here, how will he be an asset for it?

The first Stanford-to-49ers jump. RT @mercbrownie 49ers hire Greg Roman as offensive coordinator. http://tinyurl.com/45gopnv

Wonder if that helps David Carr?

It helps Carr sit on the bench even more, if he was there during his tenure.

What did you expect? And Roman and Vic Fangio have more pro experience than college.

If you're happy with Harbaugh as HC, then trust in him that he'll put together the best coaches/assistants to run the WCO. Besides, Harbaugh will probably be calling the plays a lot himself. Also, why not hire someone he's worked with well and am familiar with his coaching style? Seems reasonable to make Roman OC to me.

Everyone knew Harbaugh was going to go with coaches he knows and trusts. Thats why most of the staff that was here is not being retained.

harbaugh is basically the offensive coordinator, so whoever he feels most comfortable working with as OC I am fine with. Fangio is an NFL caliber Dcoordinator, with an attacking style 3-4 defense. I am most intriqued about who he will hire for position coaches, I do think at some point he needs to bring in coaches with more recent NFL experience. The first step would be to retain Solari as OL coach, or I would not mind seeing Tom Cable brought in as oline coach.
Greg Roman signed as the offensive coordinator.

Defensive coordinator Vic Fangio shouldn't be too far behind Greg Roman in making the Stanford-to-49ers move.

Exactly, Remember the article when we thought we missed our chance saying JIM WOULD OF PUT TOGETHER A DREAM STAFF. Obviously that article was insinuating that he would bring over most of his stanford staff.

This is the best fit for Jim. He has someone who he is close to and has a similar vision of what they want to do on offense. Their ego's obviously get along, he has NFL experience, and with Jim wanting to call some of the play he needs an OC that will accept that. You think McDaniels would parlay to Jim willingly. Look at Haley and Weis at KC, both are accomplished OC's but why would Weis move laterally to college if there weren't some headbutting for control of the offense.

We need to trust Jim in the fact that he will be able to see a problem and proactively try to resolve it rather than what six games in and use people as a scapegoat.

Jim, Roman, and Rathman... all versed in the WCO, all wanting to be power based. This looks like a very good OC staff to me, maybe not "NFL experience" wise but at least they will all be on the same page and be able to offer consistent opinions.

and it has already proven success so why not keep it together as best as possible?
I figured today would be the day. Not too hard to figure that one out. Harbaugh wanted Shaw and Stanford to have the headlines yesterday. I'm glad to see Roman come aboard. From all accounts he is a sharp offensive mind.
Fangio has yet to accept any job offer.

DC Vic Fangio was at the 49ers facility late last night but has yet to accept any job offer, according to two team sources
