Bud... Vic Fangio has been in the NFL for a long, long time.

so was Jimmy Raye

I meant to say an OC. My bad.

Let me correct that ...

Vic has been successful for a many many teams where Raye had only been "successful" with the Raiders when Norv Turner was there.

Wtf does Vic Fangio have to do with my post?

I'm glad he'll call the plays. It will give us continuity for once.

Greg Roman has NFL experience. He and Fangio were on John Harbaugh's staff in Baltimore before Stanford.

Mike Solari has tons of experience in the NFL, including a stint at OC. Tom Rathman has solid experience as an RB coach as well.

I wouldn't worry about the lack of experience under Harbaugh. We could get a experienced OC at the QB coach position if needed.
If Roman gets the job I'll be pretty ecstatic. An o-line coach working with Harbaugh at OC on strategy/game-planning is a very bright move (specially when you look at all those creative shifts/sub-packages Harbaugh devised at Stanford in relation to Roman being his o-line coach).

Roman isn't some fresh-out-of-water fish, he has all the skills to be a stable OC/offensive assistant (was a QB coach, offensive quality control guy, and an offensive coordinator all at the pro level).

I'm curious though as to who will be our next ST coach, that might be the last slot filled (as we could be holding out for somebody on John's staff at Baltimore).

I really hope Jim is just waiting until the Jets lose this weekend and then hires Bill Callahan as the OC.

Sucks for him when he takes a #1-ranked defense and turns it into the 16th ranked defense. But at least they will have a good yards allowed per game average and run defense. Mark it down...
* The San Diego Union-Tribune is reporting that the Chargers are poised to hire Greg Manusky as their new defensive coordinator. Manusky was San Diego's linebackers coach from 2002-06. He also interviewed for defensive coordinator openings in Arizona and Dallas earlier this week.

* Yesterday, reports out of Los Angeles said that UCLA would hire 49ers offensive coordinator Mike Johnson as its offensive coordinator. The school, however, has yet to make a formal announcement.

* Tight ends coach Pete Hoener, a favorite of tight end Vernon Davis, interviewed with the Redskins this week, according to a team source.

* The Houston Chronicle reports that the Texans have hired Vance Joseph, the 49ers secondary coach since 2006, to be their new secondary coach.

* Jerry Sullivan, the team's wide receivers coach since 2005, has told the team he will not be back. Sullivan plans to retire from coaching.

* The best bets to remain with the 49ers are offensive line coach Mike Solari and running backs coach Tom Rathman, both of whom are well-versed in the West Coast offense, as well as defensive line coach Jim Tomsula, who has the backing of team President Jed York.
