if they had a pro bowl of hard hitters, hes all pro. but....

near the top of the NFL in missed tackles and blown coverage among all S.

....but he hits hard

Damning stats. You got a link to an article?

http://www.profootballfocus.com/by_position.php?tab=by_position&season=2009&pos=S&stype=r&runpass=&teamid=-1&numsnaps=25&numgames=1

all stats are as of week 15

he has 11 missed tackles, which is top 10 in the NFL among S, 32 rec. against, which is top 5 in the NFL (Michael Lewis is number 1), top 5 in yardage allowed to receivers in his coverage zone, etc.

he does also make alot of tackles, forces fumbles, and is one of the harder hitters in football, but his coverage is awful.

click the link, and sort by "Cov." scroll all the way down, look whos in last place.

Goldson came a long way this year and I am pleased over all with his play. To take it to the next level he has to focus on tackling first instead of trying to be the next Jack "They call me Assassin" Tatum. He does that, he might be close to Ronnie Lott as a HOF safety. Lott was great at angles, making sure he had the tackle first than would annihilate the guy if he could.

I would suggest to Goldson he seek out Lott and spend some time with him this off season like Spencer did seeking out Eric Wright how was one of the great yet highly underated CB that played the game.
I like Goldson. He's made many plays this season. A full season under his belt and can only get better. Some of you all complain, but he's A WHOLE lot better than those backing him up.

I think that Goldson can improve but he has been questionable in coverage. When you have one of the lowest statistically ranked pass defense's in the league, FS play has a lot to do with that poor performance.

I think Goldson can improve in a number of areas and I'll be interested to see how he plays next season.

Thanks for the link Niners99

thats the problem. everyone is just remembering the hard hits he made, the fumbles he caused, etc.

nobody looks at the actual numbers. hes statistically been the worst cover S in the NFL this year. its not my opinion, its stats. i wish he wasnt, but people need to realize he isnt a budding pro bowler. at least not until he learns how to cover wr's, which is kind of a big part of being a DB...
Goldson definitely improved over the course of the season. Since the TEN game he's played much better, with his best game against 'Zona. We finally have a playmaking safety that can lay the wood and cause turnovers. He needs to improve in coverage, but I don't remember him being burned since the game vs. Tennessee.

With time, he can become a special player.

He will work on that during the offseason.
Per an ESPN report, Nate Clements is moving to free safety, so San Francisco could really use a shutdown corner like Joe Haden.

how often to 1st round CB's turn into studs? not often enough. its best to sign someone proven, of draft later and try to find a gem. maybe we have something in Tarell Brown. we could also go with Mays at S, since Berry will be gone.

its hard to judge, since we wont get to see Clements in a game before the draft to see how he looks after the injury.

I'm calling BS because neither Barrows nor Maiocco reported anything first...
