sorry i don't think anyone can blame the niners for the smiley situation. they did not feel an above average guard deserved as much as they wanted, then come the bills cowboys, and cardinals paying 40mil+ contracts to average guards.

the niiners immediatly called smiley and said okay we will give you what you want, but the damge was done, and smiley did not want to be here.

Of cousre you blame them. They are stupid for thinking an above average guard doesn't deserve that type of money. Sometimes you have to pay to play homie. Why are we concerned about the contract size when the guy is playing lights out? He was and still is an above average guard and is better than any guard on this team. How bout we ask Henne, and Ronnie Brown how it's working out for them paying an above average guard good money. I think Hill and our Rb's care. They could have worked out something if he really tried but the Niners didn't really try b/c Scotty himself said guards can be found anywhere. How wrong was he on that b/c the Niners guards have looked like trash. Yes he didn't want to be here but that was after the Niners basically said they didn't want him. I'm not gonna kill Scotty for it but imo it was a mistake that could have and should have been averted.
interesting that this analysis comes after a really bad game, but not before when they were 3-1.
You should consider being a Redskin fan. Seriously...
"Ooooohh Scotty doesn't know-ooooeee. So don't tell Scotty! Scotty doesn't know! Scotty doesn't know!"

Scotty sucks
bad teams don't have good all around players , we built that through the draft and signing 2nd or -A tear palysrs some work out and some don't. example justin Smith, #22, TBC last year and we let him go. Now we need to get better at three maine positons , QB, OL & passrush. A good QB will always help a good team not a great team to win some games that gets you to the playoffs. like this last week the D had no fear of Hill's arm and studied him so they were blitzing and covering short not deep cuz they know hill won't have the time to throw deap cuz our inept OL and he doese not have the arm except the Morgan one cuz he broke a tackle and went 61 yards ! so we need to go out and get a strong arm qb or put Davis in not Alex he has no clue !

Okay..Patrick Willis was there from our draft...it seems like Scotty does love to build from the draft...I give him credit for that..

I'm just talking about acquiring a proven player during the off season....other teams seem to do it...why don't we?? Too expensive?

You mean JSmith, Takeo Spikes, N. Clements, Larry Allen, Dre Bly,

do you even know your team

Scott likely wasn't the only GM who would have noticed P Willis's talent and while I don't hate the moves he's made at some point you do have to question the approach. I guess you couldn't have Crabtree, Edwards, Jones, Morgan on the same team and expect to make them all happy but the point about the thinking the team was set but for a few tweeks I'd go along with, they are more than a few tweeks away IMO , maybe with 2 1st rd picks next year they can make the upgrades. To me the whole season has a Nolany feel about it , better than Nolan but start big and then fizzle big. I really think the Houston game just got really important if they tank that one I'd start to worry, the schedule is not going to be easy

I too have reservations about Scot. I worry he is going to blow our two first rounders next year.

How much could we have used William Beatty or Phil Loadholt THIS year?

I don't know, but I am not a NFL scout! Hind sight is easy I know, but not too impressed with Scot's tract record.

Holmgren is a crappy GM who just like Nolan got his duties revoked in Seattle.

I don't know why everyone is aboard the Holmgren for GM train.

Can someone give me a good reason?

How many SBs has he taken his team to??? ... Nuff said!

I just get the feeling that management doesn't have a winning mentality...

Okay...just hear me out on this...

It seems that every years, Scotty and who ever LOVES to sign 2nd tier players from free agency. For example, who have we signed in terms of WR since Scotty got here??? They were all cast offs and underachievers for other teams. And Scotty some how feels that these under-achieved WRs will live up to their potential with the Niners. Here's the list:

Darrell Jackson
Bryant Johnson
Brandon Jones

Okay..the jury is still out on Brandon Jones, but reality is his just a #2 guy..how many #2 guys do we need with J Hill, Morgan, Bruce, Battle, Ziegler???

How come we never go for a big time player?? i.e. Jets trading for Braylon Edwards or Bills making a run for TO, etc.

And then we were thin at the tackle position since Jonas Jennings left...and basically Scotty gambled on Marvel Smith (who is coming off back injury). Looked how he turned out.....his back couldn't hold up...

Same with the QB position. We went into this season with Shaun Hill and Alex Smith. Maybe Scotty feels that Alex Smith will still live up to his potential but the truth came out when Smith didn't win out the competition during training camp....

It just irritates me that we were 7-9 last season and Scotty thinks somehow we can become contenders without any significant upgrade on our roster...

My impression is that management is just too cheap to sign the good players, and rather gamble on draft to build up the team. They were even too cheap to resign Justin Smiley...and now we are stuck with under-achieving Chilo whose gonna loose out to Tony Wraggle....

look at chicago, I would say they are more talented than we were last year...and they went out and traded for Cutler...

Look at the Jets, they went out and traded for Braylon.

I'm just saying...I think part of the problem starts with management...
