I usually don't like the guy either, but he's exactly right this time. We were stubborn and we're going to have to show more flexibility and creativity to sustain wins over a 16 game season. That doesn't take away from this win, and I don't think he disparages the victory.
I like this observation though:
Those feelings were detectable in the locker room afterward; the 49ers players, who giddily celebrated every weird victory under Mike Nolan, accepted this one as a little but important step on a long, head-banging journey.
That's good that the players weren't too satisfied with this win. It would be easy to regress after this, but it sounds like the coaches have their heads in the right place and players are taking the long view.

Why would that article upset you?
I'm no Kawakami fan, but nothing he said there is untrue.
We struggled mightily on offense and it was an ugly game. Arizona beat themselves as much as we beat them. We just didn't make the same kinds of mistakes and were able to take advantage of their mistakes.
But it wasn't because we executed well consistently (especially on offense), and it wasn't because even when we did, we looked sharp and precise.
We smashed the ball, smashed it some more, and then, for good measure, even had the slowest WR on our team try and run the ball.
And that's fine. Based on the players we have on the team, and the mentality our HC has, that is what we should expect. Sometimes it may work, other times it may not, but that is the kind of football team we have.

Yea I agree with the article. gonna have to mix it up on offense. Or the o lineman have to actually win some battles and get push in the running game. No way you can keep running the ball with this type of run blocking. I really could careless if the win was ugly or pretty, but the run game was super ugly.

I just read the article and he's right.
However, I believe if our running game gets going, our offense will be immensely better, as we could use more play action.

Kawakami is right. I mean, the Niners kept running over and over again when it wasn't working and actually causing them to lose yardage. I felt like banging my head into a wall after watching them run on 1st and 2nd down for loss of yardage, only to run again on 3rd down to cause a 3rd in out.
The OL needs to do better, and they need to mix it up and be at least a little unpredictable.

It's kind of a chicken or the egg thing, though. Our running game might actually get going if we're a legit threat to throw the ball. Our O-line didn't block all that well for him, but I'm not sure how much it would have mattered. The Cards were so keyed in on Gore, I don't think he would have had much of a chance either way.
That 15 play, 80 yard drive saved Singletary & Raye from a lot of b***hing today. And it's no coincidence that 13 of those plays were passes. Our other 5 drives in the 2nd half were all 3 and outs. I'm all for the premise of being a "power" football team, but you have to make teams pay if they're going to overplay you. And we can do that without being too concerned about turning the ball over, because one of Hill's strengths is decision making. We also have solid "possession" receivers. We need to take advantage of what we DO have going for us in the passing game.

Why does someone breaking things down exactly the way they really are get you upset?

Kawakami is right, plus he is a journalist. He is suppose to report what he sees. This offense is garbage and you all know it. Do you really think we are going anywhere running the ball like this?

I am not a fan of Kawakami but this article is one of his better ones. He is matter of fact in his approach. I can understand not liking him but in no way does this article support the feeling of the guy being a fool.

Sometimes he is a fool, but not this time..
His assessment was fair and accurate, his conclusion was not baseless, but rather based on facts.
We all saw the same game.... the offense struggled for long stretches.
Munusky's boys won this game.

I agree, at times we need to throw more, but face it, we arent gonna be a great offensive minded team, with Sing at helm.
ANd Face it, we will be a Defensive oriented team, which is great.

This "Fool" had it right. How many times do you beat your head against the wall before you realize that's not going to work? That 80 yard drive was a revelation. I don't know why it took Raye and Sing so long to wake up. Just glad they did. Hopefully they show a little more imagination and the ability to adapt on the run (no pun intended) in future games.
