We cannot re-draft him. If he does sit out, they will trade him.

I like this part
"The 49ers still want Crabtree, they still think he can make an impact,
it's just that no one in the organization can now envision a way in which it would happen."
How about increasing the offer a bit

How about not! With two draft picks next year, no way they up the offer. Crabtree camp is trying to bully the 49ers and it aint happening.

Sorry, I forgot the 49ers are a playoff caliber team and can afford to lose the 10th overall pick.

This stupid slotting system is going to be busted up anyways in the next CBA. While it won't effect the 2010 class it's very likely that it will effect the 2011 class meaning those guys won't be able to make Crabtree's threat. People have to see this as a unique case do you really think all 32 draft picks will use Crabtree's argument next year? Come on now. 3 guys will try, and no one will go to the lengths that Crabtree is going to. I'm willing to play the percentages that it won't be one of our picks.
I don't buy the slipperly slope argument. If we overpay Crabtree, Staley will be p*ssed, our next 15 draft picks will want #1 money, and Obama will become the first Communist dictator of the United States. Come on now.

Face to face meeting would be a good step forward....
Make sure Jed is present, the deal will get done...
If the niners think he will make an impact then get the deal done...
we need to keep building, Franchise QB, Safety, pass rusher, and WR... It would be nice to check off one of these...
That is the same list we have needed for the past 6 years...
(That is why Scot should lose his job, that's another topic)

I still have faith that this situation will work out somehow. The end of the season and the ability to trade Crabtree from March 1 on is still a long way away! I believe something will happen and the two sides will come together! If not, its his loss. If he wants to jeopardize his success in the NFL, then go for it. He's getting a negative reputation before even playing a down in this league!

This is so stupid. I COULD GIVE A RATS ASS ABOUT THE 49ERS' MONEY. Pay him a little more and get this s**t done. Who cares about "saving face" or what the other franchises will think.
We're the losers here, plain and simple. We need value out of the 10th pick. Does anyone honestly think we're gonna get a 1st rounder for Crabtree in March? I don't see it happening...that team will just say "ok we'll take our chances with drafting him then."
How can we not offer more than this "slotted" contract and then honestly act like we tried to sign him? We thought he was bluffing...he's not. So we lose, pay him.

Who gives a s**t about Cashtree...he's not a Niner yet and today is GAMEDAY! Let him sit at home and watch what he could be doing if he came to his senses, he'll be here soon but until then lets focus on the game at hand. GO NINERS!!!

All this s**t should of never went public, then I'm sure a deal would of been made. Now, it's too late. No one's gonna budge cuz it would mean they caved. Childish.

The events we are seeing this offseason just continue to show that our current management is clearly out of their league in developing a championship franchise, let alone a winning franchise.
Good teams simply don't have these problems. They find their way to bad teams, such as the Raiders and Niners.
Maybe this will be a blessing in disguise, and we can get someone to run our franchise who knows what the h*ll they are doing.
What have we done to upgrade our team this offseason if Crabtree does not play? Evans? Bly? Norris? Pashos? These backup, role players that few want in the league are going to take us to another level? Where are the difference makers?
P.S. The Niners better hope that Brian Orakpo doesn't blow up this season. He's already starting for the Redskins, looked terrific in preseason, and could be one of the best young pass rushers in the league this season.
And, Michael Oher is going to start tomorrow, as well.
People can say all they want about the Niners holding out to save pride, but some of these teams are going to line up rookies in their starting lineups tomorrow from the first snap. And our rookie will be sitting on a couch in the Bay Area.,
Are you saying the Niners should have selected Orakpo or Oher? You've always stated that BPA was the right choice in a draft. BPA was Crabtree. Your own pre-draft list said he was #10. Also, you accuse the Niners for their pride but in other posts you sympathize with Crabtree's pride.
I agree with you that Crabtree doesn't have to be evil (or the other epithets). He may be simply uninvolved in the negotiations as Trent Dilfer suggested. That would explain why he is the Bay Area. But that means Parker is controlling things for his own purposes, which may be to break the slotting system. If so, then the Niners do not deserve your abuse, at least as far as the Crabtree situation goes.
Yeah, he has it ass backwards on this one. If we throw in the towel to his demands that shows a weak FO and not the opposite. Look at waht caving into a players demands hads done for Denver. LOL
We aren't going to cave, unless maybe we start out 0-10. I think no matter what happens now it's going to be bittersweet. If he does sign and performs well, how long is he going to remain a 49er? How much is he going to ask for when he becomes a free agent? What if he's not getting the ball enough? Is he going to hold out if we put the franchise tag on him? Those are the questions I'll ask myself every time he makes a big play. I'm starting to think we're better off without him.
I can see were your coming from but he wasn't a problem at TT, I just think his circle of people are giving him terrible advice.
Well, if you could make money playing college football, he might've been a problem after his rookie season. We'll never know.
How were they to know that the #10 pick would want more than what a #10 pick should get? Nobody knew. If they did, they wouldn't have drafted him and he would've slipped even further. I would think that if Crabtree did want a huge deal in order to get signed, he'd keep it on the DL so it wouldn't hurt his stock.
You said that "nobody knew". However, I did. If that qualifies me as "nobody", I accept the compliment.
How can a guy living in Ohio, unattached from the NFL, have a better perspective on how this would play out than paid professionals?
Again, no part of this drama suggests Niner management didn't anticipate some sort of holdout. The fact the Parker was the agent essentially guaranteed a hold-out. The threat of a hold-out would not and should not have been enough to scare away the Niners from making the pick.
Show me who predicted a hold-out lasting into the regular season with no end in sight and I'll kiss his a$$ after allowing a half-hour to draw a crowd.
Maddog, I think you'll have to agree with the point above. No one, even you, predicted the holdout would last this long.
At least, the Niners will get additional draft choices, perhaps another round 1 in a trade after March 1, 2010. Then, your analysis of the Niners' folly will have to include the status of those players as well as those from the draft day trade.
I predicted an August 15th signing. I thought there would be a compromise after the first preseason game. However, since the Niners were not going to budge, there was no chance of a compromise. They are sticking to their guns, and along with Crabtree's unwillingness to sign the Niners concrete offer, the impasse has happened.
