what are you talking about? both Boldin and Fitz kicked our butt last season. Even Breaston ate our "secondary".

LOL check ur stats bro. They may have hit us for a TD now and again but i wouldnt say they ever torch us.

You should be talking about yourself. All of your posts on here are either 1 sentence long or a line dissing someone.

Well you come in here dissing our secondary and saying how their receivers kicked our asses when in reality they didn't... go look up the stats.

That's just sad. Our secondary sucks in the redzone. When opposing teams pass in the redzone I can almost guarantee that it's going to a touchdown. How can we fix this? Start a new FS, I don't care who it is. Any bum off the street is better than Roman. Start Brown over Harris. Harris is too old and slow now. Let Clements play to his style which is bump and run. We need a good FS so Clements can get physical with the WR. Michael Lewis doesn't need any help, he's a beast.

Your building quite the track record for "different" opinions.

You will see from the stats above, we actually are #8 in red zone defense.

Also, based on DVOA statistical analysis (comparing plays to the average NFL play in the same situations), a guy broke our seconday down like this

Nate Clements Coverage: 20th in league facing a pretty high 8 passes a game
We did an average job (15th) covering the #2 WR
We did a HORRIBLE job coveing the #3 WR (26th)
Average job covering TE (17th)
Good job on RB (9th).

Also on DVOA breakdown, our weakest spot is the middle of the field, specifically when the opponent has the ball at their 20 all the way to our 40, not a redzone weakness.

-Terrell Brown actually looks pretty good with DVOA analyiss
-Under DVOA, one great stat is our D improved a lot at finishing games under Singletary

Clements is still our best, just not playing up to his contract but as we all remember that year we needed a CB so bad it was insane. Clements isn't a shut down corner but IMO he is still a top 10 guy.

I do appreciate Lewis stepping up and being a legitimate starter for the past two seasons. He lost his starting job in his final year in Philly to then 2nd year player Sean Considine. I remember not being happy about us signing Lewis and thinking he was nothing but a run stopper. Thankfully, he's proved me wrong and has shown that he's a very good football player.

However, in no way is he more important to us than Nate Clements! And that's all I gotta say about that (Gump is on TV).

Uh, no. He's not.

End of discussion.
Clements is.

Now go watch some 49er games, and then form an accurate opinion. Although MLewis is a stud, Nasty Nate is the man.
No. He's second best.
Did Larry Fitzgerald have a worse game than both of the games he had with Clements covering him? This thread is based on a faulty premise - that our secondary sucks. It doesn't. One more decent pass rusher and this defense is top 10 with lots more interceptions.

what are you talking about they sucked aginst us did you see any niners vs cards game?

yea, DID YOU?

Sorry IW, but the numbers speak for themselves. Nate kept a lock on Fitz most of both games. Can't win every match up every time as a DB. That is never going to happen. Not even Deion kept guys on permanent lockdown. Deion was a lock down corner just because he was good enough to make teams not throw on his side of the field. Cause if he undercut the route, it was a GOOD bet that it was pick 6. Only Rice schooled that guy on a consistent basis.

So what Fitz had that score against him? That also happened when we were running the Hybrid system and guys were having trouble in it. Went to base 3-4 and things got much better.

I think that Nolan was right to want to use a hybrid cause either system has its faults. But you have to have a guy well versed with what you want to run and the depth and personnel to run it. You can throw guys at the wall to see what sticks but if you are still missing pieces it crumbles like a house of cards or burns like a house of blue diamond matches.

Nate did fine even against Arizona.

i rank our DB's:

-Clements
-Lewis
-Harris
-Brown
-Goldson
-Spencer
-Roman

etc.. rest are unproven

i think everyone knocked M. Lewis' pass coverage ability but he didnt look like a liability to me. he was the most consistent performer we had out there. nate and walt got torched quite a few times but i think lewis has played very well for us, he was an amazing addition to this team and im glad he's here

Breaston - 124 yards
Boldin - 92 yards 2 TDs
Fitz - 46 yards 1 TD

that's not torched? lol

and in the first game Boldin had 8 catches against us and most of them came in the 2nd half when they adjusted the gameplan against NoWin. He was owning us first down after first down. He could've of had more if the Cards didn't play keep away at the end.
cut roman! Pick up Taylor Mays next year!

Glad you see what I see. Michael Lewis is a consitent performer. On the hand, Nate was torched for a big play every other game. I am not saying he sucks because i know he doesn't. He just needs to play to his style. But Lewis has performed better since the addition of the two.
