Maybe we should give them all starting QB position for professional sport teams. Good lord, the only thing alex has ever won so far is a P.R. war.

I can't wait to see him rescue some blind orphans from a burning building (that should be enough for him to secure the starting QB position - shouldn't it?) - God knows he can't rescue a franchise... It doesn't make you a "good" person to live through a tragedy it makes you "a" person who lived through a tragedy !!!

This underdog angle that the media is pushing (which works on the dumbest of you everytime) is insulting and contrary to any sense of reality. I DON'T CARE IF ALEX IS A GOOD PERSON!!! With 50 million he should be - without 50 million he should be - with tragedy and without,,, He should be!!! He is trying to be a football player not a motivational griever. He sucks at football and every off season we get these fairy tales about how he looks like "the guy" and then he fails completely (and all we get from the authors of these fairy tales are more alexcuses to propagate for the sake of access). Once Smith is gone watch how the stories from the access whores will start to become more and more critical and reality based... The court of public opinion is stupid and so are its jurors.

Wow, this post is the very definition of "hater". Someone who can't stand anything positive being written or said about Smith.

You know, its ironic because its posters like dirty and 49er4eva who are doing more to grow the Alex Smith Bandwagon than any "media love" out there. The sheer hate, almost blind hate, these guys have for Smith are causing more and more Niner fans to route for smith because they just can't stand the stuff being said about him.

Its not that they think he is good, or that he has potential or that he has been given a raw deal is first couple of years...

Its just that they can't stand listening to you guys anymore.

Some of the guys may go over the top a bit; however, Dirty does have a point.

Let me first say that I do feel for Alex and what all he has gone through. Life is tough and sucks sometimes and Alex is learning this. These are some of the life lessons that build you into a man.

As Dirty has said, Alex has yet to prove he is a good QB. Most of us would love it if he somehow developed into a perennial pro-bowler; however, he has yet to show that he should be a starter in this league and no amount of PR is going to change this. He has to show it on the field.

I completely agree. Alex Smith has a lot to prove. And not by any means do i think he should be handed the starting job regardless of what he has been through. I think Smith has to vastly out perform Hill this pre-season to be handed the starting QB spot.

However, Dirty's rant is the one making the correlation between the ESPN article, the good vibes and just handing the starting job to Smith because of it. I think most sound minded people on here may be rooting for Smith but still believe he has to earn it on the field.

Dirty is just making an assumption that because people are rooting for Smith that the automatically want to give him the starting job. Thats just not true.

Another thing, one ESPN writer writes an article about the hardship Smith has experience the last couple of years and Dirty starts proclaiming that Smith is receiving "media love". Its just one article. I don't think that qualifies as the enitre media.

Unless he is also referencing what the Matt's have written during OTA's. Which, if it is the case, I do not understand. Why would anyone take issue with writers reports that Smith has looked good in practice? Why would anyone be upset hearing that Smith is playing well? Once again, its not like the media is saying Smith should be named the starter. And if it is the OTA reports he is referencing when he says "media love" then he is just hating on the kid.

And thats what I mean when I said some people can't stand to hear anything positive associated with Alex Smith. Nobody is handing him the job, he still has to prove it on the field, but don't get mad when reports out of camp say Alex Smith is looking good.

Well there have several articles about how he is throwing well and looking good in OTA's and now this tear jerking article . People have to realize it was his choice to leave school early because he would have NEVER been first round anything coming out in 2006. He got the fat paycheck, but produces like the project QB he is.

I just think its sad that a QB can come in 2 years in a row and produce wins. But gets no media attention at all hardly. Yet a bust who proved that can go 3 and out and hit receivers off target can get more excuses and articles explaining what he went through.

I like Shaun Hill as a temporary fix. I am pulling for Nate Davis to pan out. If not we have 2 first rounds next year. I would rather not use them on a QB though.

Come to think of it, I was very angry at that thug who let Williams clobber Steve Young, but I can't really think of another example.

I dont understand. Nobody is angry, they just think he sucks. Which he does. If you want a great guy on your team than maybe you should be a Lions fan and enjoy losing all the time. I'm with Big Mike. I WANT WINNERS. The excuses are old.

I guess from the comfort and safety of your own padded cell, some of the abuse Smith takes around here might not seem like "anger." This "edgy", show-me, chip-on-your-shoulder, player-hating thing has really only been happening now for about 10 years and it's way past tired and boring. You and your edgy little pseudo-fan friends have some kind of adolescent fantasy that you're tough guys, or something like that and that your hard-edged toughness somehow makes you better fans or marlboro men or something. You want winners! You demand this, you demand that. Jesus H Christ what big babies you guys are!

I would have thought this was obvious, but this NFL thing is supposed to be entertainment, not a rite of passage or a pissing contest. It's interesting that you should suggest I become a Lions fan. The first game I ever attended was a Lions game at Kezar. I was probably rooting for this team before your dad was born, so can the suggestions.

It never ceases to amaze when you tell the truth about player, how people get so offensive like you are talking about their child lol

The love for Alex Leaf is so ridiculous and unwarranted. The sad part about it is Shaun Hill can help guide us to the playoffs and the Alex Leaf Love will still over ride his success.

So I guess Mike Singletary saying I WANT WINNERS where I actually got that statement from makes him a baby also? We should fire him and get Urban Meyer so he can coddle and hold Alex's hand and then he will be our Franchise QB JUST SAY NO TO SPREAD OPTION QB'S

For the billionth time you have to be doing good when somebody insults you to be called a hater. Suburbanites I urge you if you are going to use slang, use in the right context The truth is being spoken about this bust.

Can't wait til the season starts. There nothing on here but Alex Leaf threads.
I've been posting on discussions for months that I feel more comfortable with Shaun Hill starting based on his record alone. I'm not talking about that. I'm talking about irrational anger and hatred directed at a Niner player by people who call themselves Niner fans. You have a right to be that way and I have a right to not like it. Call me old fashioned, but I never get used to all the player hating around here.

Still crying about Alex Smith and Shaun Hill over here, huh? My God, that is so sad. The same handful of queerbabies trying to get WZ attention by insulting Alex again and again... and again. Can't just accept that he is a 49er and working as hard as he can to get us what we all want... team success. Oh, but you five are all so sure that he sucks and will suck until the end of time. McC, Singletary, our OC, the beatwriters, all feel he can turn things around... but not the handful of whiny haters. Every damn 9er fan that I met or read from believed that Alex was turning the corner in the 07 offseason or before that... but he fell to injury. Since then, the bitterness and memories have grown as ugly as the team's failures since.

Look at yourselves... hating a young kid for having the guts to go 7-9 with a problematic team... going 2-1 with a problematic team... trying to stand in and throw many passes with a shredded shoulder because some a-hole HC was desperate... sticking close to the team and learning while injured, rather than going off and doing his own thing... showing every sign of wanting to turn things around for SF, when he could just as easily have jumped ship with his millions... dedicating himself to this new offense and a return, and looking good so far...

Look at yourselves... call yourselves fans... buncha D-bag sons o biatches.

i sense some anger in this post.

well yeah i am mad. i dont care if he starts or sucks or whatever. but i dont want to see this type of stuff being said about anyone on this team. i love football as much as the next guy but its not life or death, and that shouldnt be made fun of etc just because a person hates him because he plays on their favorite team and they think he sucks or they hate him or whatever. and to whoever is going to bring up how people hated on guys like jennings, roman, etc, i wanted them to succeed too because THEY PLAYED FOR MY TEAM.

Dont worry. Its not your Era. I see you bypassed my response completely. So Mike Singletary is a baby also for saying I Want Winners, eh?
Here's the strange thing, oldman9er, from reading your posts, I see that you and I agree that Shaun Hill should start. But that's not enough for these edgy, mean-streets guys. It's not enough to like Shaun Hill. You have to hate Alex Smith. Can't do it.
