Actually, having the Raiders at Candlestick is as hostile as a home game is ever going to get so that should be a good test. Raiders have a good secondary as well so they'll be a challenge.

And a good test for our defense as well. They should be facing Jeff Garcia for most of that game.

How about Bernie Madoff - he was worth billions - he should have been a reeeaaaaal good person, right dirty?

Here's a lesson in life that some of us here evidently need: having money doesn't necessarily make you a good person. I would have thought this was obvious, but I guess it's not.

If I had money: I would be doing lines coke off strippers asses right now. I would be a great person.

2nd preseason game, 3rd...it's all the same incompetence no matter what. He should've designated a starting qb a long time ago (like properly coached normal teams) but at the very least should do so before they play their first preseason game.

It's funny, he has no problem claiming the team is a playoff contender in JUNE (despite not knowing who his starting qb is) yet he CAN not and WILL not make the simple and obvious choice to name Hill the starter. The most he's said in recent interviews is something like Hill has the edge --- and it took him since Jan. to say that! MS is proving to be a total train wreck!
I actualy want hill to win but some of you make me so disgusted im rooting for smith instead just to piss you off. you fools are actually ignorant enough to make fun of his friends suicide. you disgust me and just bc youve never had anything as bad as that happen to you and you dislike that he plays football for us DOES NOT give you guys the right to act this way. your attitudes toward him are pathetic.

Maybe we should give them all starting QB position for professional sport teams. Good lord, the only thing alex has ever won so far is a P.R. war.

I can't wait to see him rescue some blind orphans from a burning building (that should be enough for him to secure the starting QB position - shouldn't it?) - God knows he can't rescue a franchise... It doesn't make you a "good" person to live through a tragedy it makes you "a" person who lived through a tragedy !!!

This underdog angle that the media is pushing (which works on the dumbest of you everytime) is insulting and contrary to any sense of reality. I DON'T CARE IF ALEX IS A GOOD PERSON!!! With 50 million he should be - without 50 million he should be - with tragedy and without,,, He should be!!! He is trying to be a football player not a motivational griever. He sucks at football and every off season we get these fairy tales about how he looks like "the guy" and then he fails completely (and all we get from the authors of these fairy tales are more alexcuses to propagate for the sake of access). Once Smith is gone watch how the stories from the access whores will start to become more and more critical and reality based... The court of public opinion is stupid and so are its jurors.

Happy independence from thought weekend

Wow, this post is the very definition of "hater". Someone who can't stand anything positive being written or said about Smith.

You know, its ironic because its posters like dirty and 49er4eva who are doing more to grow the Alex Smith Bandwagon than any "media love" out there. The sheer hate, almost blind hate, these guys have for Smith are causing more and more Niner fans to route for smith because they just can't stand the stuff being said about him.

Its not that they think he is good, or that he has potential or that he has been given a raw deal is first couple of years...

Its just that they can't stand listening to you guys anymore.
Yes, the hate is almost pathological. You have to wonder if there isn't something else going on here like daddy issues or love-life issues. Some people around here almost seem to view Smith as an enemy. I don't think I've ever seen anything like it.

Some of the guys may go over the top a bit; however, Dirty does have a point.

Let me first say that I do feel for Alex and what all he has gone through. Life is tough and sucks sometimes and Alex is learning this. These are some of the life lessons that build you into a man.

As Dirty has said, Alex has yet to prove he is a good QB. Most of us would love it if he somehow developed into a perennial pro-bowler; however, he has yet to show that he should be a starter in this league and no amount of PR is going to change this. He has to show it on the field.
As far as I'm concerned, a fan doesn't have to love or even like Smith because of the fact that he's a great guy. I'd just like to see a cut in all the anger towards him. It's weird. I don't know if I have ever been angry that a player couldn't perform - just disappointed. Come to think of it, I was very angry at that thug who let Williams clobber Steve Young, but I can't really think of another example.

That's the difference between being an interim coach and running things on a full time basis. Sing had the benefit of coming in and making some easy decisions. It's not so easy now that he has to make the decisions on his own. Maybe, we should conduct a fan vote and give him a clue? It's easy for Sing to say that we will win the west because that's a motivational ploy. He's great at motivation.

As Dirty has said, Alex has yet to prove he is a good QB. Most of us would love it if he somehow developed into a perennial pro-bowler; however, he has yet to show that he should be a starter in this league and no amount of PR is going to change this. He has to show it on the field.

I completely agree. Alex Smith has a lot to prove. And not by any means do i think he should be handed the starting job regardless of what he has been through. I think Smith has to vastly out perform Hill this pre-season to be handed the starting QB spot.

However, Dirty's rant is the one making the correlation between the ESPN article, the good vibes and just handing the starting job to Smith because of it. I think most sound minded people on here may be rooting for Smith but still believe he has to earn it on the field.

Dirty is just making an assumption that because people are rooting for Smith that the automatically want to give him the starting job. Thats just not true.

Another thing, one ESPN writer writes an article about the hardship Smith has experience the last couple of years and Dirty starts proclaiming that Smith is receiving "media love". Its just one article. I don't think that qualifies as the enitre media.

Unless he is also referencing what the Matt's have written during OTA's. Which, if it is the case, I do not understand. Why would anyone take issue with writers reports that Smith has looked good in practice? Why would anyone be upset hearing that Smith is playing well? Once again, its not like the media is saying Smith should be named the starter. And if it is the OTA reports he is referencing when he says "media love" then he is just hating on the kid.

And thats what I mean when I said some people can't stand to hear anything positive associated with Alex Smith. Nobody is handing him the job, he still has to prove it on the field, but don't get mad when reports out of camp say Alex Smith is looking good.
