Yeah......they should just box each other for it.

I think Hill would woop on Smith. Hill seems like a scrapper where Smith seems like a screamer

Smith is a "screamer"? Did you get that impression from the way he b***hed and cried about having to throw with a dislocated shoulder? Because, I don't remember him b***hing or screaming about that. But I bet you would be screaming if you had a dislocated shoulder. It hurts real bad.

We can complain all day about Smith's performance. I get it. But, let's not pretend that Smith isn't a tough guy. He's proven that he's a very tough guy whether or not you guys want to admit it or not.

did I ever question his football toughness???? nope I just said that I think that Hill would put a whoopin on Smith. Sorry if my opinion doesn't match your great thinking inside the box. I was under the impression that he was talking about a boxing match not a football game. But hey if you think that Smith can beat Hill in a boxing match then you are entitled to your opinion. Don't get all high and mighty for someone stating theirs.
Hey, man. If you think Hill could beat Smith in a fight, fine. What you posted is this: "Hill seems like a scrapper where Smith seems like a screamer"

To me, that's a comment on your perception of Smith's toughness, but whatever. It's not worth arguing over. I just get tired of all the Smith bashing around here, that's all. Nothing personal. I know this runs counter to most peoples' perceptions of him, but to me, he's one of the toughest young QB's I've ever seen. I've never seen an NFL QB even try to throw in the same season after dislocating his throwing shoulder. I thought Smith was crazy to even take the field and I was really pissed at Nolan and his crew for not protecting the young man from catastrophic injury. The kid would get slammed down with a sack and just be grimmacing - no help; take another snap, kid. Unbelievable.

I'll feel more comfortable at this point with Hill starting, but if Smith gets a chance to redeem himself, good for him. He's one of the toughest young QB's I've ever seen on the team.

"Screamer" was meant in the way of how some people make that screatching sound when they have no idea how to fight and they are just throwing their hands around in the air hoping to actually connect.
The fix is in. I am convinced the starting job will be handed to Smith this year.

Haha, knew it was a short matter of time before the Alex-haters/Hill-lovers started making their Hillexcuses. Gimme a break... McC and Sing will select the QB that they feel gives SF the best chance to succeed in September. They are not gonna play favorites over best chance at immediate success.

I'm not actually an Alex hater. I will be cheering for whoever takes snaps under center next year. I find it humorous that a competition had to be used to give Alex the starting job. I am accusing the staff/management of trying to sway public opinion to do something I think they were planning all along. This has nothing to do with Alex's or Hill's performance.

There is a big push in the local media to try to convince 49er fans that Alex is an OK guy. Look at some of the recent headlines. The article I found most obvious was stating that Alex should get the respect he is do for coming back the way that he did. I have posted in the past about how I felt this competition was not really a competition. I can explain it again if you would like me to.

Pretty obvious to even the haters (you or not you) that Alex is "an ok guy." Heck, he has his own foundation for youth education already and anyone that listens to him knows his character pretty well. This is a legit competition in my eyes and in anyone's eyes that hold no particular bias.

Alex Smith may just be the most polarizing figure in 49ers' team lore or at least at Webzone. You either love him or hate him. The mere mention of the name Smith & starting QB in the same sentence may cause rioting.

I don't know about "Smitty" being back? I'd go even farther than that... I'd say it could be a new and improved "Smitty". I definitely wish him luck, I want to see him succeed.

I think Hill will be the starter at the start of the season.... I am just more worried about our backup QB situation..... that is where I feel a fix would be in.... We will all witness it during the preseason....if Damon Huard outplays Alex during the preseason....will he be rewarded the backup roll....will the 49ers do what is best for the 49ers........I don't think so.

preseason hasn't even started yet. And given that almost everyone is just writing Smith off like he is some type of scrub off the side of the street that Nolan just said " hey kid you want to play football"

I know a lot of people assume that Smith is just going to lay a fat rotten egg during preseason. Some even think he will look so bad that he won't even be worthy of 3rd string.

But let me ask you this, what if Smith outplays everyone and looks like the best QB during preseason. Would you or any of the other "haters" be OK with Smith being rewarded the starting job or would you stick to your guns and still want him to ride the bench because of past performances.

I guess what I'm trying to say is that you seem ready to demote Smith to 3rd string if he plays poorly, but would you be just as ready to promote him to starter if he plays great in preseason. Or do we have a double standard going here?

I don't know if Alex will lay a fat egg...hell I think he will do ok....u know like in 2007...we run, we run, playaction Alex hits someone open....and so on....

but I just think, judging Damon Huard's past starting experience and how he was starting for the Chiefs the same way Hill had to work his way into the starting role.... Huard did really good for a team with no WRs....and also did fine with the Dolphins awhile back.....so its more, me seeing more good QB play from Huard than Alex really.....is that crazy to expect Huard to outplay Alex?

as far as Alex outplaying everyone....if he plays great....u know like 3-4 straight pass plays....sustains 1st downs and scores TDs....and just looks totally different and Hill stinks it up.....well then Alex should start.... I'm a Hill fan...but I'm not blind....I want what is best for my 9ers....I just hope that if Hill is struggling that Alex is brought out in the 1st quarter in several preseason games...and plays against starting defenses....and shows he is ready for teams during the regular season.
