As sad as it is, it sure is starting to look that way.

I know we all wanted to this kid succeed but sometimes you have to face the facts. You can clean up a turd all you want, but in the end its still a turd.

It's nice to have hopes but trying to pull facts that Alex Smith ever looked consistently good in his NFL career is a far far reach.

It's not a good sign when every QB who walks through the doors keeps looking better than him.

See, there's the problem: You can't judge the guy based on his "career." He started 30 games and played in two others. That's not a huge body of work to declare someone a bust. It's just two seasons worth of work.

That's been my huge beef with the Alex Haters. They're unwilling to aknowledge that he hasn't played four years. He's barely played in two. The big argument is "he's played four years, which is enough time to prove himself." No, he hasn't. He played the equivalent of two years.

But, that's just my opinion, and I don't like any of our top three QBs.
For those who have thoughtfully watched the NFL over the last 30 years, you will have noticed that many different QBs, with many different styles and traits, have led their teams into the SB. There is no one way.

Many of you condemn Smith for being too slow and deliberate in his decisions. A good team usually has a good OL that gives its QB adequate time. With his other strengths, Alex's caution can be an advantage under the right circumstances - it can often result in the big play.

I am not concerned if the team names Hill as our starter. We will not know whether is is the answer until he plays a full season, against good defenses, etc. In the meantime, Smith will sit and watch. There may come a time when he has to go in and we will be able to evaluate him and his progress over the course of many, many games.

Yeah. Not good at all for Smith.
its one practice. i think/hope that its actually good for him to take his lumps in practice though and hopefully get used to reading different defenses again. hopefully he goes through his progressions faster when the bullets are flying and just throws it to the first open player. it may never happen for him though and if it doesnt than oh well.
Not just one practice. He has been slower with the ball in EVERY practice.

wait a second just yesterday he was 5/5 in a blitz pick up drill. so to say hes looked bad in every practice is just not true, and in tc there was a while where he was finding open guys and everything like the day he had 20 straight completions. so saying he was slower in every single practice is wrong when neither one of us were there. the whole problem was him being slower in games, not practice, because games are what count.

I don't care how many open guys he finds. It's when he finds them. It was reported yesterday that he was slow on his throws. This isn't anything new. He has been slow on his throws his entire time in the NFL.

If we are talking about the time the ball takes to get to the receiver, Smith has weaker throwing SKILLS than Shaun Hill.

But you never never know...in that turd there may emerge a larvae...and that larvae could grown and sprout into a beautiful shining butterfly who will spread its wings and fly to glory!

The only right circumstances Alex could take advantage of is being on a team with a QB that sucks more than he does. Unfortunately, I don't see that happening any time soon unless he goes back to college.

Willis you are wasting your time trying to reason with Joe, Smith is solely responsible for the downfall of the niners and the single reason they have been no good for the past 7 years...and yes I know he has only been around 4.
Yea memphis youre right it is a waste of time. but i just wish if people were going to hate theyd do it because he makes a bad play in a game. i remember when he was lighting up the practices people just said it doesnt matter its practice. but then after all the good practices that supposedly didnt matter they jump on him for one or 2 bad practices. i dont care about practice any more if he does well in a game ill give him props and if he does bad ill admit it.

The reason for that is Smith can do no right and is always wrong. Where as Hill can do no wrong. Smith has a great practice it is chalked up to "it is just practice" Where as if Hill has a great practice it is because "he has the IT factor" Smith has a bad practice it is "he is a bust cut our losses now and drop him" Hill has a bad practice it is "the defense just had a good day" Don't forget that Joe is the ring leader of the Smith hater circus

Yeah i agree brotha, with hill at the helm and mark my words, we wont win more than 8 games, mark my words. and your right when you say about practice. Aint that what iverson said, its practice, your talkin about practice. If hill gets in the game again on Saturday and drives the ball but stalls at the end, none of his fans adress this. Sing said it best, we know what we're gonna get with hill, and he's right, the short throws to tight end first. Smith's drives may have stalled, but he got more receivers than hill did on his series. Hill's type of play is get the man the ball underneath and then let them work, thats not a bad way to be, but he almost never looked down the field against Denver, and then took the bone head sack. Dont make excuses for the guy if he f**ks up.

Smith may be the turd, but in reality hill is just the turd that you wrap in a box, and call it a truffle, that is until you finally get ready to open the package, and it's still a turd. So to all hill fans if you take smith out completely, Hill will never get us to the playoffs. You can easily plan around hill. just say keep and eye on frank gore, and make hill beat you deep. Smart defenses probably already have this figured out from the end of last season. So lets just wait and see.

I do not worry about it myself, his history of irrational posts on the subject speak volumes about his lack of objectivity when it comes to the QB position. (See his posts about JTO from last preseason.)
