With this competition being as tight as it seems. It might end up being a coin toss. The save choice choice should be Shaun...if for nothing else...his performance last season. However the kid is pressing him by all accounts & should that show n-prove to be the case in preseason....It should be the kid. Shaun reached his apex. Alex has the potential to grow even more.

God you hill people are even worse than the smith guys.
no you have gotten behind a slightly above average qb because you have a vendetta against the other guy. i like both players, but to say either one of them is the amazing player their fans say they are is premature at this point, and ignorant. if hill is as good as you make him out to be, hell shut down smiths shot at the job once its game day. so dont be so threatened, chill out, let them compete, and may the best man win.
So you're trying to tell me that Hill hasn't clearly outperformed Smith?

You're telling me that based off their careers so far, it would be hard to judge who is the better QB?

You cry much... obviously, Singletary and Co. want to find someone better than Hill. They think they may have that in Alex, but need to be sure. So we have a competition. First, Mike needed to see if Alex's arm was recovered and strong... check. Next, he needed to see if Alex had the mental disposition still after the crap he's been through... check. Needed to see how his pocket presence and accuracy is... check. Now... now he will need to see him in some real action... facing a real pass rush. Hill did well in mop up duty, and had the good fortune of stepping into situations that were on their way up. He may even be good enough to put together a winning season... maybe. Face it... management is SO hoping that Alex will be the answer. Why? Because they know what they have in Hill... and that's a decent QB, but honestly nothing special. Deal with it... it's happening... no more whining about what you THINK should be happening. Accept what IS happening, and stop pouting... please.

You act like you're one of the team officials. Everything you said about the team trying to find someone better than Hill goes along with " obviously", or "face it".....
You seem so sure about the fact that the team thinks that Smith is the future QB.
Get over it. Smith SUCKS.

You really don't get it. Why wouldn't the 49ers want Smith to win? If smith is the guy then they don't have to worry about drafting (and paying) another Qb for 10 years. If Hill is the guy you have someone for maybe 4 years and then you're right back at square one. Smith winning the competition and performing well is the most ideal situation. Makes the front office look good, secures an important position for a long time and makes for a nice little story too haha.
I prefer Smith to be the guy for the same reason. It would help our team out more than Shaun. I'm not talking just football wise. I think Shaun deserves to start but I just hope at some point Smith is the franchise QB because it sure would save a lot of future headache.

You guys are getting your hopes up way too much. Smith hasn't done anything in the past to even make you think that he has what it takes to be the QB of the future.

Yeah I don't see why people don't get this. I guess it's easier to hate the guy than cheer him on and be disappointed if it doesn't work out.

Some people have disappointing lives so they don't like getting disappointed in other areas like their sports teams. I, on the other hand, have a great life and won't mind it if Smith doesn't perform up to par because we got Shaun right there ready to take the reigns.

I suspect that if there is a tie, Smith is going to win the competition due to his higher upside. I think what Smith has to show is the ability to handle the pash rush, make quick decisions, and throw the ball accurately and on-time (normally he waits too long and then rushes an inaccurate throw).
On Hill's side, I think he needs to prove his ability to throw the deep ball and not rely on the short passes too much. He also needs to show that he can play a consistent 4 quarters, although that won't happen in the preseason.
Both of them need to show that they can throw touchdown passes, and not just kick fieldgoals when they get into the red zone.

You are taking your love for Hill way too personal. Both of them are on our team and both of them have from all accounts improved their games and their own weaknesses. I was a the recent saturday practice and totally concur with all of the beat writers calling this race very close in terms of what has gone on in camp. The team wouldn't have gone to the trouble of restructuring his contract and made this camp open for both of them to compete if they didn't see something very worthwhile or intriquing in Smith , after all if they were solidly behind Hill it would have been better to give all of or a higher amount of reps to Hill but they didn't do that. At this point both of them have improved enough where most fans keeping an open mind would root for both of them at this point and then this is where you and I agree ------ let the pre-season games determine the ultimate winner. Just so you don't mistakenly assume anything ------ I have leaned slightly in favor of Hill during most of these discussions but I do root for both of them ------ we may possibly need both of themat some point this season.

well if you really feel that way than relax, because sing isnt going to throw out a lesser player at a position as critical as qb. thats all im saying.

And Johnson has adopted that repetitive and detailed approach during his seven months with the 49ers. Hill’s fundamentals were much further along upon Johnson’s arrival. But Smith was not as polished. Admittedly, Smith ignored many of the basic techniques of the position during his first four years in the NFL.
“The priority becomes learning the playbook as opposed to fundamentals,” Smith said of the yearly change in 49ers coordinators. “He (Johnson) is really good with it. It’s the most work I’ve really gotten, as far as pocket stuff and my feet. It’s the best I’ve felt with it.”

No,I am not trying to tell you that, but the head coach and the position coaches are,and I think they are just a little more qualified than you or I to make that determination. You are basing your decision on the past and that is not where we are at this point,we are in the present, and presently it is a race too close to call. The coaches obviously do not think Hill is the answer for the team or he would be the starter without having to earn it.Either way it goes this team will be better for it and that at least should make you happy.

Yeah I seriously don't understand the Smith hate and that it is STILL HAPPENING even when the kid looks good at camp.

Indeed, some of the "Faithful" seem to lack said faith.
