Alex Smith has never done ANYTHING to show he is a legit NFL QB.

This video proves how ignorant it is to even attempt to make such a blanket statement.Maybe the blind haters will watch this and realize that they have been ignorant of the facts.Or maybe they will just continue to spit out the vitriolic rhetoric hoping that it will become fact if they wish for it hard and long enough. Thanks for posting it up Z.

I was just going to post about how his deep balls look really good in this video.

But, this is why its called a highlight video. You get all the good plays made by someone, and you put them in a little video, leaving out all the bad plays made by that someone. Get it?

Smith is a professional NFL QB, drafted #1. Of course hes gonna make some good plays, but he hasn't made them consistently in his career. That video just shows like 10% of Smith's play....

Been there, watched that, seen the 74.8 QB rate for his best season. I'll trust our coaches opinions over a video that doesn't represent his 54.4% completion average...

Look, I'm not a hater; but, they do call this a Highlight video for a reason. Competition will sort out the wheat from the chaff...

The two quarterbacks that not a lot of people are talking about. But I am because I'm tired of the Hill vs Smith news that is non-stop. During the preseason the back ups will get a good amount of playing time to show off their talents. The question is who will get more playing time; Damon Huard or Nate Davis. Huard the 13 year vet vs the Davis the Rookie. It would be stupid of the 49ers to keep 4 quarterbacks on the roster to start the season with. Who will make the roster? Alex Smith and Shaun Hill are basically a given. Personally Nate Davis is alittle unknown just because he played at Ball State, and Damon Huard might be at the end of his career. I think the 49ers should keep Damon Huard just because he would be able to give insight on the game to Hill and Smith. But hey thats just my opinion.

Yeah I don't see why people don't get this. I guess it's easier to hate the guy than cheer him on and be disappointed if it doesn't work out.

Some people have disappointing lives so they don't like getting disappointed in other areas like their sports teams. I, on the other hand, have a great life and won't mind it if Smith doesn't perform up to par because we got Shaun right there ready to take the reigns.

FREE ALEX!!!

Yeah I seriously don't understand the Smith hate and that it is STILL HAPPENING even when the kid looks good at camp.

Everyone believed after 2006.

Indeed, some of the "Faithful" seem to lack said faith.

Faithful refers to the team. If you are still posting about the niners after Donahue on this board you're faithful. I support whoever wins but ur blind Smith homerism is in danger of makin u a smith fan more than a niner fan.

Um, I pull for Shaun Hill just as much as Smith, thanks.

lol nah like i said if you are still here on this board i got nothing but love for you and yall deserve to be called faithful. but calling out someone else's faithfullness is exactly what you were doin. not u nick. im jus sayin dial tha kinda rethoric down. you guys been posting great points let those speak for themselves.

I like you Memphis, but you are absolutely wrong with the NEVER statement. He did show promise at times whether you want to see it or not. That's OK as I know what you are trying to say.

The bottom line though, is that at the end of 2006, as is the history of this point, we were sooooooooo behind this kid. He did show glimpses of that ability that warranted the pick, but not enough. Again, there is a reason why we even have a competition this training camp. His long ball looks great and he's progressing on his short throws.

He deserves at the bare minimum, that respect for coming back after a dubious beginning to his NFL career. He's at least has earned it!

I look forward to seeing him on the field on Friday.

The past is just that, the past. Learn from it and move on!

Go 49ers!

PS Thanks, too, ZR! I needed to be reminded of what we do have in Smith!

That was just a little sarcasm directed at some of the ridiculous posts I have seen in this thread.I was kinda poking fun at all the guys whining about the QB competition going on man.I agree 100% that Smith is capable of being a legit franchise QB.The article on the new QB coach explains exactly why he has struggled. What the f**k were the QB coaches of the Nolan era doing one must wonder? It is funny how the farther into the preseason we get the more desperate the tone of the Smith bashers becomes.Just so you know Tico,I am one of the few that seem to believe in what the coaches are doing...the competition is legit and may the best man win, whatever his name is.

GO NINERS!

Smith's first throw of 11-on-11 goes 40 yds in air, perfectly into Battle's hands over M.Lewis.

According Maioccos Twitter.

Ah yes, it's nice to be able to get that perfect step into the pocket with a nice follow through...sigh...we'll see how many times this happens Friday.

Who said Smith had a perfect pocket with a nice follow-through? I didn't see that stated or implied anywhere.
