You do realize it takes two to tango right? He wasn't a free agent. The bucs said they were never trading him.

Most of it is going to be rolled over into next year, lots of player's cap hits are high next year so its to account for those.

Vita Vea requested a trade at the start of training camp, but the Buccaneers never considered dealing him. https://t.co/8VL1eLoR11

If BA applies for reinstatement there goes a big portion of that cap space.
Outside of that, per 49erscap.com 49ers-2025-salary-cap-thread the 2026 cap situation is as follows:
(the link to the site where this information comes from is on the page I have linked to above)
Top 51 cap room: $67,566,405
Effective cap room: $23,191,405
I would concentrate on that second number because that seems more representative of what we actually have to work with.

Rolling over. I think we are over for 2027 already. I'd rather not restructure at this point with many of our older vets due to them being older and we haven't demonstrated we can refill the roster yet with talent. The last thing you want is more dead money on your cap for players no longer on the team and no young talent to replace the production.

We are not that much over and it's looking like Aiyuk cap hit may be minimal if at all. I'm not opposed to rolling over cap but idk if that's the best move in a supposed Super Bowl window. Trent, Kittle, Juice and CMC are on the backend of their careers.

They'd make more in college than on an NFL practice squad, so it makes sense.

I thought the goal was to win the Super Bowl, not to save the most money. Maybe with the Yorks as our owners, it is. My bad, Lynch, it's not your fault we're operating with a lower salary cap than the rest of the league.

This whole thing is bizarre.
10 years ago, if you put together a group of people, granted them ultimate power and authority to make any changes to college football they wanted to, and gave them the sole direction of screwing college football up as bad as they possibly could.....there is no way they would do as good of a job as the NCAA, and the power 5 (4 now) have done over the last decade. It's insane.
