Has Trey Lance put up a 2.8 qb rating in a game?

Darnold has been bad. Two teams have given up on him. To expect that guy can be an effective starter week 1 here cold is asking a whole lot.

Because it's pretty damn relevant seeing it was his last start

Plus there are guys like yourself that love to cite it as being meaningful when it's good but conveniently ignore it when it's bad.

Perhaps. But now he's gonna unlearn all the bad he's been taught and bad habits other coaches never addressed. That takes time. Plus this offense isn't easy to learn quickly.

calm down 2PointEight
Dude is a solid #3.

No complaints here. If he was targeted as a starter it would be different.
Sam Darnold has been on bad teams. He did fairly good after he took the starting reigns after Steve Wilks was named the interim HC in Carolina. Kyle has been following him for several years and wants to see, what they did with Purdy last year, possible they can coach him up like never before. Plus he won't be asked to carry the team and this is a QB friendly team.

We will see who rises to the top like crème or who is made of steel/iron and who is aluminum.

I think he was targeted as a guy who can start in regular season. Not that he gtd will.. but can if needed. They know BP is compromised and questionable for 2023. They also know TL can't stay healthy both years, and is a work in progress.

Yep, the 49ers for through a lot of QBs. A 3rd string qb will always be expected to get some starts on this team.

Has Darnold ever been with Shanahan two seasons back to back??

Shanahan>>>>>>>>>Any HC Darnold has ever had

Did the Jets spend three 1st round picks and 3rd round pick for Darnold??

If anything Trey Lance has been the bigger…much bigger disappointment.

And think about this, you think Darnold is crap, yet Shanahan is about to give him first team reps with Lance. Imagine if I said that before Shanahan announced it, I'd be seeing you say something like "glad you're not the head coach". Smfh

What do you guys think, should we re-sign Darnold, if he plays well and learns the system?

How does anything you wrote address my point that all those bad coaches will have taught Sam bad habits that Kyle will have to help him fix.

Darnold has been crap. Can Kyle turn him around? Maybe. Will he turn him around by week 1? Highly unlikely.

if the 9ers signed Blaine Gabbert again you'd want him to play over Trey. I get it.

The way Kyle is talking about him makes Sam sound like he's tied with Brock..

I didn't see any flashes of brilliance Darnolds' whole NFL career but we'll see..
Comparing B. Gabbert with Sam at this moment is unfair. Besides, don't forget Sam is only 25, lots of time to correct. Can he do it in one season, not likely, but just got to fix his thinking and mind set/process. Who knows. If he does well, maybe future QBs busts will ant to get their career back on track. Like our DL. Not a bad thing.

Just got to wait and see what happens. Be an open book people-I know I know this is the WEBZONE-haha
