It´s just Rapoport giving his opinion based on what Kyle said at his press conference.
Now I have to say that I would be baffled to see Darnold as the starter week one if Purdy is not healthy.
What is the difference between playing a question mark at the QB position like Trey Lance and someone that has been mediocre at best all of his career like Sam Darnold? Where´s the upside with Darnold?
Is playing Lance a few games before Brock comes back will really kill the season for the Niners?
If really Kyle thought about replacing Garoppolo with Darnold after the 2020 season, I don´t know what to say.
Garoppolo is way, way better. Not even close.
I mean sure we can think that Darnold had bad coaching and roster with the Jets and that Matt Rhule sucks but damn he never helped his teams either. He played with CMC (7 games), DJ Moore and a really good defense last year. Reddick, Brian Burns, Derrick Brown, Shaq Thompson , that´s a lot of talent.
And the funny thing is that we´re signing him because there´s too many injuries at the QB position and he missed 5 games last season because of a shoulder injury!
They can´t possibly think that they can go to the POs with this guy if Purdy can´t play next season?
I would much rather go with the unknown and Trey Lance at this point.
