QB Sam Darnold is a Viking

I'd rather have a 25 year old QB that may still have some upside than a wshed up old guy that can't play anymore. Besides, we're talking about a player that we hope never sees the field.

3.5 mil for backup QB insurance? Yea that's pretty steep man. I don't think that would be the move if they were 100% in on Trey but we will see

$3.5 mil is pocket change you find in the couch as an NFL franchise

our QB room is like $14 mil charge

There are single dudes like Daniel Jones making $40m aav. We are $14m between 3 guys. That's a 26m difference.

I hear that, but it's still a lot for a guy that shouldn't dress for a majority of the season. Doesn't make any sense for Darnold to sign here either if that's the scenario.

Even if he doesn't play in the regular season, Darnold can make himself money in future by playing well in preseason and impressing Shanahan. A good year under Shanahan will help his value in the long run, either with the 49ers or elsewhere.

His value is higher now than it would be after not dressing behind a couple young dudes. I could only see his stock going down

I disagree. He'll command more than $3.5 million in 12 months time imo provided he keeps his nose clean.

He just came off the best play of his career. I don't see how not dressing behind a couple 23 year olds will up his value. That's Josh Johnson level

They didn't get him to not dress. They got him to dress if needed. TL and BP are both major question marks. Like I said last season in place of JG, Darnold would have dressed like 15 times regular season and more postseason. Why are ppl all the sudden assuming nothing will happen in the QB room. QB room gets hit hard 80% of KS seasons.
Darnold can beat out TL right now, he can keep the seat warm for BCB

I believe the League will value a year under Shanahan for Darnold to hone his game. He's about to get the best coaching of his career. I guess we will see.

Exactly. Darnold is the starter until Brock gets healthy. Trey is either trade bait or scout team/PS

Back-up to Lance and insurance policy in case Purdy goes onto the PUP list/suffers a setback/etc..

I guess you'd say Payton manning was a lousy QB as well? Because he had an TD/INT rate of 111TDs 81 INTs in his 1st 4 seasons and thats because in year 3 his TD /INT rate 33/15 so you look at year 1 2 & 4 and its 78/66 also almost 1 to 1. AND he had one of the best WRs at his disposal one Marvin Harrison....Darnold had who???????? I'm Not Saying and Never Said Darnold is Better than Purdy OR Lance... I'm saying the guy who is playing the best should get to start THAT is What I've ALWAYS said...Everyone is arguing over who is going to start and Training camp HELL NOT even OTAs have started yet... we DO KNOW that Brock Purdy won't be starting or doing much at the start of Training camp

comparing Sam to Manning to make whatever stupid narrative you push make any sense

it's the best 49er offense since the mid 90s you could plug a lot of QBs into it and be floored with how well they are doing. Sam Darnold would surprise ppl how well he's doing if he gets a chance to play with all our ones.

Look at that common sense.

You know we have some idiotic posters when a trolling Seahawks fan agrees with a lot of our own members.

Sam was never good, he's gotta 55 starts of overall bad play. Like worst in the league stuff.

Lance hasn't played enough football to say anything good or bad. That's the whole point.

that's like saying josh Rosen is better…come on people.

WWhat happened to Mariota and teddy?

No it doesn't. We're in a unique Spot in our QB room.
with health/inexperience with Purdy and Lance we needed to find a veteran QB who realistically would be our 3rd string QB but also has starting experience.

darnold accomplishes that perfectly. We can win a few games with him if he's got to start a few games worst case. But if Purdy and lance are healthy then darnold isn't dressing.

Most likely scenario and intent imo is that he plays 3rd string, gets some coaching which maybe gets him an opportunity in a year or two with another team at a decent Carr-like contract, and the 49ers continue to play the compensatory pick system like a fiddle.

I'd take Darnold over Teddy and maybe Mariota. Teddy's not that good. Mariota is older, more a known quantity. Shanny def has a crush on Darnold.. from a football perspective. Remember Peter King rumored about Darnold to SF last offseason.
