Flacco was the backup in NJ for 3 of the last 4 years avg like $2.8M per.
And he was better than their starter the whole time

How is that a lot of money for a backup in 2023? I'm seeing $3.5M not $4.5. It's a one yr deal so you look at that gtd cash.
I just think its a lot for a third stringer, but who knows. They're probably over correcting because all their QBs got injured
why do we assume 3rd string? unless BP rushes with some miracle recovery it's 2nd string until he's back, right?
also even if 3rd string, we had that third guy dress last season for 15 plus playoffs

$3.5 mil is pocket change you find in the couch as an NFL franchise
our QB room is like $14 mil charge
There are single dudes like Daniel Jones making $40m aav. We are $14m between 3 guys. That's a 26m difference.

I hear that, but it's still a lot for a guy that shouldn't dress for a majority of the season. Doesn't make any sense for Darnold to sign here either if that's the scenario.

Even if he doesn't play in the regular season, Darnold can make himself money in future by playing well in preseason and impressing Shanahan. A good year under Shanahan will help his value in the long run, either with the 49ers or elsewhere.

His value is higher now than it would be after not dressing behind a couple young dudes. I could only see his stock going down

I disagree. He'll command more than $3.5 million in 12 months time imo provided he keeps his nose clean.

WTF are you talking about? At this stage with KNOW Sam blows. Almost 1 to 1 TD/INT ratio. Blow 60% comp. Career 78 QB rating. As a starter he's been one of the worst QBs in the league. That's ALL we know right now.
ya'll are f**king ridiculous. We know Lance stinks because we have 100 passing attempts BUT Sam is better because we have 55 starts 1,800 passing attempts of him stinking…give me a break.

Frankly I'm just amazed that they didn't sign Matt Ryan. I thought Kyle was too lazy to teach QBs his playbook. Thats why he signs old washed up has-beens like josh Johnson

They picked up old washed up never has been Josh Johnson mid season. The FA QB landscape is a lot different mid season than it is in March.
