Football isn't MLB, you aren't just out there on the mound by yourself, throwing to hitters. You are gonna do as well as your line and skill guys, and playcaller, allow. Darnold will play good football here. I don't think there's a question about it. Like Sam says, guys are open. Hard to fail, when guys are open, and the pass rush is walled off.

Not mental gymnastics to think the most underwhelming top 3 pick ever to get 50+ starts will continue to be underwhelming until proven otherwise.

The line is better than we make it out to be, imo. Also guys are open, like Sam says. When guys are open, that counters opposing pass rush. Back foot hits, ball out, move the chains, and repeat. Easy to get it out, when guys are uncovered. I'm trying to figure out how you cover CMC, you have a LB on him? You have one on one with BA? Then you realize we have Kittle and Deebo. It's a DCs nightmare, just be the point guard, distribute to the open guys, like KS says, it's simple stuff, can you do it?

So being on an improved team, with better weapons, a better defense, and a better play caller will have zero positive effect? Tell me you don't understand football, without telling me you don't understand football...

That's all you got for Sammy? Give us some number projections. What are you liking about his game? Why camp out in the Lance thread when this is our true starter when the season begins?

The Lance thread is where all the trolling and crying are. This thread is only to accuse people of racist narratives.

Number projections? Hopefully Purdy is healthy all season and Darnold never gets in. If he does get in then I could see him averaging 230+ YPG, 2/1 TD/INT ratio, and passer rating above 95.

What I like about Darnold's game is that his strengths fit Kyle's offense. This past year in Carolina their system and concepts were very similar to ours, so he should pick ours up quickly. He's not an elite runner but has some initial burst to escape the rush and make something out of nothing when a play breaks down. Having the types of weapons that we do will surely make his job easier (if he has to play).

You are still saying this,... Haha. Me just staying on the topic of the 49ers, I remember when I was barely allowed to sneeze in here.

He is our 3rd unless both Purdy and TL get hurt or bomb badly.
This entire thread is mental gymnastics

Steve Young here, from ClutchPoints:

Young called himself "a Sam Darnold fan" in speaking with Matt Maiocco for the 49ers Talk Podcast. The Hall of Famer seems to believe that Darnld could be a winning quarterback if given the chance to start for San Francisco.

"Do not sleep on Sam Darnold," Young said. "Sam is as talented as anybody in the league in doing the things that we, you know the outward things like arm strength, mobility, and all this stuff. Again, he's going to have to show that he has the force."

And from your years of watching Darnold he's given you the belief that he does this well?

Cuz there have been plenty plays when he hesitates or rushes a throw that goes right to the defense.

Trey can't do it…but Sam can? But Sam hasn't done it. So unless you think the open guys in Kyle's system are somehow brighter for Sam to see in red than they were in green or blue then maybe you're onto something. Or the pressure other teams brought vs the other teams he played on now come slower now that he's on the 49ers then maybe you're onto something.

Until Sam shows he's able to make better decisions in this scheme I wouldn't assume he can suddenly do things he hasn't done well on tape with other teams.

Steve was also a major Zach Wilson fan and Trey Lance fan.

Love Steve but he tends to favor QBs who were in similar situations to him. Wilson at BYU, Lance replacing a proven starter in Jimmy, Darnold coming from bad situations and looking to show he was worth a high draft pick.

Sam is not Steve though.

I feel like someone is going to trade for darnold or allen (at least try to), especially a team who runs a similar system to us (Miami, Houston, GB etc).

it's kinda wild that we have so many quality players at QB but 2-4 is still kinda up in the air. Hahaha

Good call!
that dual threat, athleticism

"Sam Darnold rolled out to his left on a play-action bootleg, but couldn't find anyone downfield and succinctly rushed for zero yards before being met by a defender."
