I think he has a chance to at least be a valuable backup and push for starting time if Tartt is gone next year. He may be slow in coverage but has good instincts so we will see. If we keep Jefferson next year that will hurt his chances imo. I loved his ability to force turnovers in the shortened year, something Niner fans haven't seen since Goldson.

Hakuna Matataa will no doubt be our best SPECIAL TEAM PLAYER the next 2 years!!!
then he will be a HYBRID type of SS/LB when we face DOPEY and HAPPY !!!

Yeah, for a 5th you can't ask for much more.

Completely. Tartt can't stay healthy. Curious to see how this rookie starts out and also the vet Jefferson.

Hmmm interesting. TH has been butchered in here for being "basically a 6th round pick" and too small and slow and injury prone to amount to anything. Now we need the guy that was undrafted and even smaller and slower, coming back from injury to possibly start us off. Ironic

This is part of a report on him today
Talanoa Hufanga, who looks, as expected, like a menace when he's placed inside the box. His timing on some of the 49ers' inside zone and inside gap scheme runs was uncanny for a rookie. He met fellow rookie Elijah Mitchell at the line of scrimmage a couple of times, closed down Trey Lance on an outside zone read and played crucially tight coverage on the coverage sack Lance (theoretically) took.
Kyle Shanahan said after practice that Hufanga has been what the 49ers expected and that he's flashed similarities to fellow Samoan and now Hall of Famer, Troy Polamalu, who Hufanga worked with over the summer.
"He's been what we've thought," Shanahan said Friday. "He loves to run around, loves to act like Troy Polamalu out there, still got a ways to go before he's a Hall of Famer, but he's done a good job. We enjoys his presence out there. He has fun. You can tell he enjoys playing football, he fits in well. I know he's a guy that you can tell it goes up when he gets the pads on; he's a lot more excited for the pads and you feel a little bit different energy out there."
That's awesome to hear. I knew he'd be a playmaker mainly because of his instincts not his subpar athleticism.

Sounds like he's destined to make the team.

i am hoping these two guys step up cuz the over rated tartt is unreliable and is underwhelming to me as a player., hope the kid and tony get the job done

You better get that s**t outta here before NY and company sees it. Did you not know you can only praise Lance in practice reps?

Still baffling that this guy lasted until the 5th round. He was the PAC 12 defensive player of the year, and had multiple double digit tackle games. Not saying he was #1 worthy, but in the 5th? Glad we snagged him.

If he's half as good as Polamalu that would be great.
