The team is trying to win now. The prerogative and focus will be on getting Jimmy all the reps he needs to doing that, and then giving Lance the backup reps.

Trey Lance is our QB of the Future, but for this season, he's slated to be the Back-up. Let's not forget that the 49ers DO love and believe in Jimmy. It's just the injuries that have been the problem. We picked Lance because his role is to be a back-up QB that we hope develops into a superstar QB in Year 2 onward.

Um . . . no. The 49ers DON'T love Jimmy. And they certainly don't believe in him. That's what mortgaging the teams immediate future for a chance with Lance is all about.
Kyle has made it quite clear that he wasn't pleased with JG's processing or QB skills.
Ideally, Jimmy will start and hopefully play well. That's not guaranteed. I'm not sure that one should expect too much. This is not 2019 now. Following the 2019 off-season NFL defenses assembled the complete book on Garoppolo and his shortcomings. Even when healthy in 2020, Jimmy never looked like his 2019 self.

Don't expect Kyle to stall Trey's development in favor of Jimmy. Every effort will be made to get Lance up to speed and ready to play. That's the priority.

Ideally it follows the KC model. Jimmy plays well this season. Trey gets up to speed with the pace of the game and is ready year 2. And they get something for Jimmy in a trade. I'm not putting much stock in that scenario. Personally, I'm conflicted about having Jimmy on the team at all. Unless he restructures his contract; it's EXPENSIVE for a lame duck player. I'm not sure the team would not be better off taking that money and extending some foundational players before they become even more expensive to sign down the road.

Despite what they say publicly, IMO the brass would be delighted if they had/would receive a decent offer for JG. That seems unlikely, though. The Patriots were thought to be a possibility, but that's not happening now, unfortunately.

Yeah, they want a guy they neither like, nor trust, running the team...makes total sense.

Yeah so let's not compare Lance to Kap when it comes to throwing motion or mechanics. It's not an accurate take. When it comes to mobility, 'twtichy' is a term used to describe Lance. Kap was deliberate and strong as a runner. Both have strong arms and are dangerous in the open field as runners, but that's where the similarities stop.

I think it's the tattoos.

Kap was more like a track sprinter, Lance is more like a basketball player...

15 years of a Top Prospect = There's a chance he's here for 15 years and is our franchise QB, but there's also a chance he flames out.

Since Alex Smith retired, let's look at him and the #1 OVR QB's that came before him:
Peyton Manning, 1998 --- The dream scenario. 14 seasons with the Colts. A Super Bowl win and a HoF career.
Tim Couch, 1999 --- 5 years with the Browns. Bust.
Chad Pennington, 2000 --- 7 years with the Jets. Had a pretty above-average tenure.
Michael Vick, 2001 --- 6 years with the Falcons. Didn't develop as a passer until he went to Philadelphia.
David Carr, 2002 --- 5 years with the Texans. Bust.
Carson Palmer, 2003 --- 7 years with the Bengals. Probably would've been the next great QB, had he not had that major injury.
Eli Manning, 2004 --- 16 seasons with the Giants. Not the regular season savant that Peyton was, but he got 2 SB rings and will go to the HoF.
Alex Smith, 2005 --- 8 seasons with the 49ers. Ruined by inept coaching staffs until Harbaugh came.

These #1 overall picks are seen as surefire things, and yet only Peyton and Eli Manning enjoyed decade-long stints. There were some QB's that potentially could've lasted longer, if things went the right way organizationally---Pennington, Palmer, Smith... But it really is a crapshoot.

Trey Lance is coming to a very ideal situation, but he also needs a lot of time to develop. Incredible potential. But he's far from being a surefire player.

Good background. It is hard to overlook the bust potential. However, the one thing Lance has over all those guys is that he is coming to a deep playoff contender with GREAT coaching and plenty of time to polish his skill set. That fact cannot be overemphasized. The only QB in recent memory that was a very high pick coming to a good team was Mahomes, and he had Alex Smith as a mentor. I don't like anointing someone as the savior before they have earned it, however, the comparison is worth considering. I like his and our chances.
I think Lamar Jackson is similar to Trey Lance because they love to Rushing Yards than Pocket passing yards?! I dont accepted his Rushing Yards @ Quarterback!

lol right. They both have some sort of cursive/handwriting on the inside of their right bicep.

I think verifying Aaron Rodgers' commitment to football and projecting whether he can play three more years is a lot easier than projecting whether Trey Lance's 19 games and 300 passing attempts will become a good NFL QB.

All in all, I think Aaron Rodgers coming to San Francisco is highly unlikely. Green Bay is trying to salvage that situation and if they do trade him, they'll prefer to trade him to an AFC team. They will not want to trade him to an NFC team, nonetheless an NFC team who is as talented as we are in the coaching staff and roster.

I think that ship has already sailed but had the 49ers traded for him, everyone right now would be discussing making a run at the SB this season after having added the league MVP. You know what he brings to the table and what he's capable of.

Hopefully Lance reaches that same level one day.

dropped in the bucket.. something we have been missing from our QBs

I think I'm most excited about having a QB that can throw a rock solid out pattern! I watch Trey make this throw and way he pivots his hips and gets his lower body into the throw is off the charts! The ball just hummms off his hand.

Wonder if Deebo and Brandon have smiles on their faces this morning?

Woo hoo!
Does anyone know when his press conference is?
Being a lifelong Lakers fan I can't stand watching them ever since they got LeBron. It ruined the NBA for me. I would hate it if the 49ers picked up a Russell Wilson or a Aaron Rodgers.

I thought Richard Sherman would be the same way but he wasn't in the spotlight while he was here and I never really noticed him.

I prefer to draft a stud like Lance and suffer through the growing pains to greatness vs bringing in a arch enemy to lead us to the promised land.

Maybe Lance is Kaep in disguise and they're going to pull another one on us and Scooby Doo style reveal it today.
McNabb, Allen, McNair... somewhere in that group if not eventually better than them all!

Yeah I think he's going with 9. Dogs name is 9er and that number is special for them because his Dad and brother wore it.

Why would he change his number from 5 if it's available? Out of respect for Jeff Garcia?

He wore #9 except at NDSU because it was probably unavailable. His dad and brother wore it too and thats why his dog is named Niner.
