This.

I think the overwhelming logic behind it, which made a lot of sense to me at face value, was that our FO wouldn't trade such a massive haul for a qb that wasn't ready to start.

Well, we did.

People said the same thing about Wentz and then he impressed his coaches so much in training camp that they were able to fleece the Vikings for a 1st round pick for Sam Bradford.

Justin Fields was my #1 choice, but I'm a fan of Trey Lance as he has the mental and physical abilities to be a top 10 QB in the league.

He reminds me of a hybrid J. Allen and D. Watson. Arm talent + throwing motion + decision making skills + pocket presence was the kicker for Lance over Fields in Shanahan's book.

I'm excited for Lance's fit in this offense. It opens up the playbook even further. Lance can be an OW for us.

And the Kap comparison is lazy. Outside of mobility, there's not much else.

I am not trying to troll here but have an honest question. Is there a good qb in the NFL who was rated anywhere close to as low as Lance was coming out of high school? A guy like Josh Allen was top 200 overall so he had some pedigree. Mahomes was top 400. Lance was 2005.
We only have a 1 season sample of him against hog farmers and cat quest reps.
just trying to see if anyone has popped out of such obscurity to be a top level qb.

Josh Allen went to Junior College then the University of Wyoming.

He also played in the same offense as Lance. The coach and the OC at Wyoming when Josh Allen was there both came from NDSU, both had recruited Carson Wentz and coached him at NDSU and then took the same system to Wyoming. Meanwhile NDSU with Lance was still running largely the same power run pro-style scheme that Allen and Wentz had played in.

Kaep was phenomenal at times but his short-comings bit us in the ass more often than liked. Let's hope the first three traits above are worth the cost!

I don't know about these ratings. Most can't be graded until Lance actually plays a few games.

Kaps decision making stunk. He was his best when Harbaugh read the D and gave him insight right until the mic cut off. The play clock always went to zero.

Kap could throw a 94mph fastball, who cares. He had no touch on check downs(if he saw them), and any designed short pass had way too much zip on them. Looping a ball over a shoulder rarely happened.

Vision for me is the biggest, and Kap could not see the whole field. Again he was his best with Harbs as his eyes, Most off his passes were hooks to wrs coming back to him. Defensive coordinators figured him out after year 1.

He failed in 1st and goal in the SB. Some blame Roman, but Kap with all his speed and power had Ray "last stupid ride" Lewis between him and the goal line, and didn't try to run by him or through him. His mental game and leadership ability wasn't championship caliber.

Agree with the above, very true unfortunately.

Nope. Hold the clipboard and design some sub packages for him a la goal line plays. Only reason he plays significantly this year is if Jimmy gets hurt.

Please no more of these.

They are totally different players aside from straightline speed.

Dual-threat, rocket arms, super fast, same build. Obviously both played in different offenses in college. Yes they are different players if my assessment with the first three traits are accurate.

I think Kaep was more a running back than QB. And he was more interested in politics than football. The one thing that stands out in terms of differences between Kaep and Trey is that Trey has more ways to throw the ball. Others have said it, Kaep throwing a 60 yard bomb is the same Kaep that will throw a 65 mph 5 yard flair out. Dude had never heard the concept of throwing with touch. Trey is already working on those QB mechanics with Beck and Kyle -- and Jimmy will also help with any remedial tutoring to catch him up as fast as possible. Jimmy's health demands it.

As others have said, we already have a Mac Jones here in Jimmy, what we have as a backup QB #2 (potentially) is a younger and faster Steve Young.

If Lance was white no one would be throwing our Kap lol...it's so lazy.
Where's 49erBigMac??? We had a bet
