If Trey isn't taking so much from this season under Herbert, it would be a wasted opportunity.
Not just as a QB, but as a leader...as a person (f**k the flashy life style)...as a competitor (although he already has his this mindset, but it has to go up even further).
What Herbert has done for his team these past few weeks... just wow.

Whatever it takes to keep Trey off the field in games that matter

Welp! Will be starting against the #1 ranked Denver defense, hungry and playing for the #1 seed. Denver with 64 sacks this season (for comparison the 9ers have 18)
"Thanks so much Trey for helping us this year, here you go buddy!"

But joking aside, I hope they just call a regular game... and not overthink how to "use" Trey. Just call your normal pass plays....and what ever happens happens.
It would be best if it were good old Jimbo football.. committing to the run, then play action to give the QB a bit of time against a talented sack heavy defense. And then punt if need be, play field position.
Now this approach has more to do with facing a defense like Denver's. If it were another team I would just say experiment and call plays and play free.

My Bolt loving brother is convinced that Trey Lance is the next big "thing." Or, he's just proclaiming that to get a rise out of me. Which he is quite good at. I cannot blame him for that. My brother and I have absolutely nothing in common with one another, EXCEPT, a shared love for the NFL.
He would abandon a shared love for the 49ers and Raiders when he moved to San Diego. That was right about the time that the Chargers became a thing under Dan Fouts. He's been a Bolt fan ever since.

I know you're joking.. but this was passed around before the regular seasons started.. as if folks forgot how talented Herbert was. He was up there with the best QBs as far as pure talent. He's everything you'd want in a QB, if you could build one. Folks just love to be negative and ignore what has been shown in the past.
So now that Herbert has played and helped the team win important games with a fractured(?) arm? Dude will go down in history for the club and the fans. So no there never was going to be a QB controversy with an unknown Trey or any other QB, and there won't be. This is Herbert's team, and he's proven and earned it.

Trey looks like he might be able to carve out a career as a backup QB

He's only 25!
The "He's only" argument was always the DUMBEST thing ever used. As if it made a difference.

At this point its too late. He needed a year to watch, and then consistent playing time on a good team to get the reps he sorely needed. He was set up perfectly in SF before the injury. His whole career was shot after that.
He's getting to the age where he needs too many reps to improve, but he isn't good enough to get those reps with anyone, and not a prospect anymore, so no one is going to force the issue. He's going to be an emergency QB for the rest of his career. But he already showed he accepted that when he signed on as Herberts backup instead of a team in need of a starter.

Brock can play mid against Top tier d, but Lance can't?
