Was brought in because Herbert had his worse game and the game was basically over and not worth exposing him to a defense that had their ears pinned back on a one dimensional offense. Herbert was taking some hard hits.
Trey threw two deep passes to get what ever points they can get... one gave their best wr a chance to make a play, but he dropped it. Cb was all over him. The second one was to their speeder, but he's a little guy. But again the CB was all over him... he wasn't going to out jump the cb so sailed it out if bounds.
Defense was all over the underneath stuff. With almost picks. Trey once again seemed late with the ball on one pass by double clutching. And threw it short on 4th down, instead of chucking it deep with nothing to lose on their last play on offense. It wouldn't have mattered score wise.. but still.
The good, pass rusher got a clean shot at him but Trey broke the tackle/sack and rollled out for a nice 20 yard pass.
Eitherway tough situation to walk into, but that's what backups are for. And they have to be ready. I don't know if the Jags defense was THAT good but they shut down Herbert and the Chargers offense. I believe Purdy had 3 turnovers when he faced them. But I also don't know what Trey was seeing on some of those drop backs.. like what was Greg Roman calling. They just shut those Chargers down, and that's not a good look for Jimbo. He has to figure something out or future defenses will just try to copy and paste.
