Like I said, Lance needs to go to a team that will start him. Lance is the kind of young QB that needs reps and not sit behind another young QB. I think Washington or Atlanta would give him the best opportunity to develop.

Wouldn't he just sit behind Ridder and Howell at Atlanta or Washington?

With a strong QB class around the corner the chances a team is going to let Lance be a starter are slim.

Not really. For one they're just as big of a question mark as Trey Lance and they can all compete for QB1.

I'm going with this. It absolutely makes a difference the first time you're in the line of fire coming back from a brutal injury. Since this whole week is going to be the internet version of the cuban missile crisis regarding Trey I choose to withhold any judgement until next week. Every year people freak out over preseason games and every year I laugh at them because it's ridiculous to freak out over a preseason game.

This is true.

We all remember Jimmy's first action after his ACL injury. It wasn't pretty:

Did that performance end up mattering? Nope. Jimmy had an MVP-like W/L record, went to the Super Bowl, and almost won it before suffering a concussion in the 4th quarter and mentally leaving the game.

Year 3 yes. 4 starts and last one being in September.

People gave Brock the rust excuse. Does that not come into play at all for Trey in his first real game back since his injury? Let's not pretend that Darnold or Allen looked great.

Allen is in his 5th year and Darnold in his 6th based on your thought process and playing vs even weaker talent.

Dude he's in his third year and looks like a rookie. Stop the excuses. Im a Trey Lance guy. I was a HUGE fan of the pick, but im quickly losing faith. He may be good in 2-3 years but it won't be as a 49er if this is the play we can expect continuing into year 3.

Okay here's the thing. Routes have sight adjustments, sure. A good accurate throw can complete that, yes. Now look at the other angle SmokeyJoe posted. Look how WIDE OPEN the in route is. Do you see that? (that little black spot at the arrow tip is the ref... there is MILES of room there)

If we assume the line actually does there job, where do you want him to throw that? Keep in mind this was NOT a blitz. This was a four man rush. Theoretically there is no need to throw fast. So if the line does there job, where should this ball go? If the line does their job, and he throws the six yard out by putting it low and on the inside shoulder (assuming the other defender bracketing him doesn't get there first), and we get six yards, and leave thirty yards on the field, what are you going to say then?

Do you see the point that he doesn't get that route without the massive 'pump fake'? Watch the LB when the ball is snapped. Looks like a basic cover 2.

Um, why would you throw an out route in cover 2? So let's say Lance didn't think it was a press cover 4 or a cover 3 (can't see where the other safety is). How does that change what happened post-snap? Post-snap it's a cover 2, and in a cover 2, you DON'T throw the out route. Oh, sure, yeah, you could do it, if you throw it well. But you ideally attack the seams and the middle in cover 2. And look how wide open the middle is here.

Assuming the line does their job, where should this ball go? If you don't say over the middle to that thirty yard gain...

The line got beat. Thats why you hit that quick short one. If the OL holds, take the deep pass. These are the quick decisions a good QB can make.

How are you supposed to know the line got beat at that point? By being psychic? The line was beat AFTER he saw it was a flat zone and decided to go to his second read, but BEFORE he could actually turn and throw to his second read.

Pocket presence. In Lance's defense it seemed he knew the rush was coming and was about to hit the short pass but chickened out and tucked the ball and took the sack.

When he pumped his throw, he should have located the ball on the inside shoulder instead of pumping. You can see the TE knowing to not run the Out. It's a basic sight adjustment. I'm not asking for some elite level play here. Anyway, if you don't agree that's cool. It's not a big deal. We just see this play differently.

That's what I see as well.

liked how he took responsibility. He needs to improve for the next game. Prolly a bit tough psychologically after he got his ankle shattered week 2. Best play was handing the ball off in Read option they ran on 4th and 1 and saving his ankle from breaking even if they didn't convert.

We really need him to progress as injury risk is just too high with this team esp at QB position (Purdy coming back from major surgery + s**t oline + TJ Watt week 1). Darnold just isn't going to win any games. Dude is a loser and will never succeed in the NFL.
Trey Lance has the physical ability to be a good QB, he just doesn't have the vision nor trust his vision at this moment. He needs to be on a team where he can play the whole year.

This is what comes to mind

Not saying Darnold or Allen looked great, but to me Trey was the worst of the 3 QBs in this game, and it was not even close. Now, there are still 2 preseason games to go.
I just finished watching the game. And boy that was a rough. Lance a couple of nice plays, but overall, not very good, to put it nicely.

Or just needs to see Darnold warm up on the sidelines, to get that fire going
Considering our QB's injury history, can we really afford to put Brandon Allen on the practice squad and risk losing him? I think we want at least 3 QBs who can function and execute.

Yes, but Lance is starting to accumulate "deer in the headlights" performances. He doesn't look like a guy in command, and this is his third year with the club.
Lance needed a little more time to throw however when he didn't have a little time to throw he was indecisive and took sacks. Not great at all. Hopefully he improves and works on his short game and getting the ball out quickly
