But the dude had several flashes of brilliance during those years. But Lance? I mean…I've really yet to see anything. He has all the things Smith did not…all world talent, coaching/system continuity/and more raw athleticism.

He seems like a good kid but I just don't see anything that makes me go "wow…this kid is special."

I couldn't agree with this more. "Special" is something you need to see from a franchise Qb as well as a top 10 pick.

The only play I really liked was when he took off to scramble and then passed it last second. That's gotta be his move. That's the athleticism piece we are hoping for. He just needs to do it more consistently

Im not giving up on him or want him to be traded. But his performance today was downright abysmal. How is he looking more lost than he did in his first two seasons? Hopefully he can learn from today. If this is his normal form then we better hope Purdy doesn't miss a single snap this season.

That's what was so confusing to me. I mean, he didn't look like this even as a rookie.

Well, people 'round here like to mock him for his injury, but it's a very real thing that he hadn't played any live football in almost a year. Jimmy was the same way, maybe worse coming off his ACL injury. We'll see how he plays next game.
Most of those sacks were because of pressure. The first one, it was sticks, and the first read and his drop weren't in sync (and the inside defender was racing over), so he moved off. At that point the pressure was in his face. If he was a very good, well seasoned QB, a top QB, he'd have managed to flick it to 10. But he's green, and the TE was covered. No chance. The next sack, the defense comes out in a disguised cover two it seems (regardless, the defender that covered the outside WR stopped running with him and drifted into the flat, taking the out/curl away. Lance then moved to the next read and IMMEDIATELY the pressure was there).

IIRC there was a long developing PA once or twice as well that ended in sacks. On a couple plays he escaped the pressure and made throws. This was definitely not all his fault.

That was a nice play for sure. I liked his scramble where he avoided a sack and picked up a yard or two on the ground as well.
Trey did get better as the game went on which I have noticed has been a pattern for him. Not counting the Bears game because the 2nd half became a monsoon. So I do wonder what it would have been like had he had a chance to play the 3rd quarter. And it was nice that he took the blame in the presser for the offensive struggles. That's atleast something our former QB rarely did.

Trey didn't play well but there were some positives contrary to some who think every play was bad. Him almost throwing two picks was my biggest negatives though because you have to protect the football.

Ill judge Mr Trey Lance if he cannot move the ball with Deebo, CMC, Kittle, Aiyuk, Juice, etc. To claim that he sucks without the full picture and all the starters isn't fair to him. What's also not fair is that he may not get the chance to play with those guys in meaningful game action. So he kind of has to ball out with the backups and our OLine backups are scrubs and thats worrisome. He's in a lose lose situation unless he bucks up and balls out with the backups. He's got 2 more chances

We've seen him with this cast and he's been average at best.

I agree with you. It's really hard to completely judge Trey from this preseason game vs the Raiders without a full complement of the starters to play with. On the inverse, Brock looked a lot better with the backups in week 3 vs the Texans than Trey did today. Go back and watch Purdy's highlights from preseason last year, big difference in pocket awareness compared to Trey.

Luckily for him, this team appears to be going nowhere based on what we saw today.

All we learned today was that the Raiders back-ups were better, as a team, than our back-ups. There were a few good plays by guys who are fighting for roster spots. I thought Ronnie Bell had some nice moments. Certainly seems like kind of a fearless punt returner, which could be useful with McCloud sidelined. Jamison flashed a little in that role as well. Bell's name got called a couple of times and Ball's. Even Winstead got open once or twice. It is a concern that the back-up O-line got beat up pretty good as we'll need at least one or two of those guys to be able to step up. It's only preseason so I don't think there is anything to get too bent out of shape about. Hopefully, having gotten a taste of what an actual NFL game is like, the young guys will be better prepared for the next one, which is what preseason is all about.

This was his best play. Really wish he played the 3rd quarter. I think he just starts slow and gets better as the game goes on
Trey looked like Johnson in the NFC Champ Game

That play and the 3rd and 10 bullet over the middle to Conley were both really nice plays.
Lance just isn't very good.

Haha this poor kid. I hope he balls out next week and the narrative changes a little. Even if he balls out people will still be negative about him

I appreciate how he drove the offense from about the 15 yard line into FG range in <28 seconds at the end of the half. Too bad it wasn't close enough for Nick Moody.
