Sounds like Trey is going to get a lot of reps in the first half, I hope the o line brings their A game. I'd hate to see him get hurt again :/ he's worked so hard and made huge strides.

I dont put much stock into pre season games at all, but it's better than nothing and hope he plays well.

But you know very well had that been Lance it would be an issue for YOU and some others in here. That's part of the issue.

The other issue is the simple fact that if Brock is playing Trey cannot play in games that do matter to show us whether he's better or not. Some of you guys are fighting tooth and nail to still downplay Trey's clear improvement and refuse to acknowledge the different situations Trey and Brock found themselves in last year when each was called upon to start.

We saw some HORRIBLE throws from Brock to start the Seahawks rain game in the playoffs. The weather improved and he clearly did as well. What would've happened in Chicago when the weather was worse to start, got worse as the game went along and there was no CMC, no Kittle and even Mitchell went out early all while the OL played like garbage? Think he's the same player we saw later in the season? Does he seize his opportunity the same way? Or does the timing and circumstances of the opportunity matter?

The weather was fine until the 2nd half. Trey was f**king awful in the game. Missed wide open guys against the worst team in the league. It was an embarrassing performance.

I was at the game.

You are wrong.

That very day set RECORDS for rainfall in the city of Chicago. I was more wet than I had ever been in my life; the field was drenched even during warmups before the game.

Plus Trey was our best offensive player that day - offensive line played like sh** and Deebo fumbled at the 7 yard line in the first quarter when we were driving for a score.

This is why when Jimmy played like ass vs the Redskins in that super s**tty weather in DC when we won 9-0 I threw out that game completely as you cannot judge a QB in those conditions.

BUT oline was never an excuse for Jimmy.

Justin fields.played in that same weather and was somehow able to throw a couple end of the game tds against a superior defense.

Oline has been getting better every year here, and it wasn't bad for Jimmy since 2018.

As for Fields, (1) he wasn't on offense having to pass the ball when it got really bad — that's a fact which we've already proven here on this board before you go laughing and mocking about it. (2) His TD to Pettis was terrible. The guy was catching a punt. It's just that Fields' athleticism is so insane Pettis had time to get open by twenty yards.

I hope Trey's putting a lot of stock into it. This game is the one chance he has to solidify being the number two. If he plays lights out, the competition is over. If he doesn't, don't be surprised if Darnold goes first next week.

Yeah, I hope he takes it seriously. Hahah I've said many times, I expect him to win QB2 and was hoping he would separate himself quickly from darnold (still a month left).

When I said "I don't put much stock into it", I'm just saying that if he doesn't play well - it isn't the end of the world. Pre season is really just glorified practices, no game planning, vanilla plays on both sides etc. i just want to see him do the little things well, go through his reads, nice clean mechanics , good ball placement. Things like that.

Great take, additionally he's likely feeling that pressure, so it's also a great opportunity to see how he he responds to pressure. For all of Jimmy's bone
headed turnovers, he always responded positively following one, and we all saw how Brock responded to pressure. It's one of the few aspects that hasn't been discussed much, despite pages upon pages in the QB threads. IMO how a QB handles that pressure is one of the most, if not the most important trait he can have.

On one hand, yeah, it's just preseason, but on the other hand this preseason will go a long way towards shaping the trajectory of his career. I hope he puts a lot of pressure on himself and doesn't crack because of it. Because there definitely is pressure.

It's nice to see quality posts in this thread after months of 'bulls**t'. Whether it's positive or negative for Trey , I hope the reactions are like these.

What wide open guys did he miss besides the infamous Tyler Kroft miss? Lay off the booze

The bigger issue is if it was Trey who performed as well as Brock did last season and had that 7 game winning streak, some of YOU would have anointed Trey as the next great QB. But because it was Brock who did that, some of you deemed as just 7 games not enough sample size, and he might regressed, and that Trey should have a "fair chance" to compete for the starting role.

It would've been more impressive if Trey did it considering he has way less experience than Brock

What you mean somehow? lol he threw those wide ass open TD's because the defense completely missed their assignments. No different than Trey's TD throw to Deebo that was so wide open against Seattle in 2021

Trey was 2nd year in the NFL and 2nd season under Kyle. Brock was a rookie.

You could literally see the water splash from the beginning of the game off players cleats. It was s**t conditions and was worse once it got into the fourth quarter. Fields couldn't do a damn thing and he was awful until the 3rd quarter where he hit a wide open Pettis in the end zone. That really changed everything. Yeah Trey threw a bad interception and they should've scored more points but the loss wasn't all on him.

Trey barely played as a rookie and has one year of college. Why are you just ignoring the fact Trey has limited experience compared to Brock? Brock had 4 years in college and played against a higher level of competition. And yeah if Trey did what Brock did what would it look like? He has a stronger arm and pushes the ball downfield more so we probably would've called him Mahomes 2.0.

Injuries cost Trey valuable playing time. He would have to play 2 yrs of games to get where Brock is now. The NFL waits for nobody.-
