I think the convo on the trade up to acquire TL is not only part of the TL thread, but will be a discussion for some time to come. It's like Alex vs Aaron. Some convos are here to stay, cuz they are such big moments / moves, in franchise history.

Do you think we'd be a better or worse team if we had Waddle, Hill, and Chubb instead of Lance?

Waddle and Hill would have quit if they played with a QB who didnt throw downfield.

I don't care if you could name 50 all star players we could've had instead of Trey, none of it matters if they aren't a franchise QB.

So if let's say TUA was part of that trade (which I know he wasn't), and you thought he was better, ok, fine. Or Herbert or someone of that caliber....

But instead it's a bunch of decent players, which guess what , the Niners already have a bunch of already. If instead of those 3 they happened to be Dre Greenlaw, Ambry Thomas, and Ross Dwelley, nobody would really care even though those players have made meaningful contributions to their team.

I think the calculus now, is BP is the FQB. More than 1 way to get one. I see teams getting them in all manner of ways. I see us doing that as well. KS said we have 3 FLQBS. Franchise like QBs. We got one in FA, one for the kings ransom, one at pick 262.

Almost as absurd as the five number one receivers claim from Harbaugh, lol.

One of my favorites on the Harbs quotes subject, was Michael Crabtree is the greatest catcher of the football, he's ever seen.

to edit - my thoughts are I see ppl saying we had to make the big risk move, cuz that's necessary to get a FQB. yet in reality, we seemingly have the FQB with pick 262. So that idea we needed the high risk move up to roll dice, simply isn't correct. I think a lot of QBs could be FQBs here, cuz it's built so strongly.

I'm pretty sure he was taking shots at the FO with the five number one receivers claim. That was one of the first signs of friction.

I think it's kinda awesome how you ask such a question without any regards to the salary cap or who you're taking off the team to balance it out. Just throwing it up on a wall and seeing what's what, right?

You are correct in that the players acquired by MIA in that graphic was not acquired only from the picks that SF gave up. In all those trades, MIA threw in additional assets, in addition to the SF assets, to acquire those players. So the graphic should not be viewed as 1 for 1, because that was not the case.

Chubb was acquired for SF's 2023 1st rounder (29th overall, was then used in package for RWilson)+ MIA's own 4th rounder + Chase Edmunds

Waddle: Miami acquired the No. 6 overall pick (JWaddle) and 156th selection (fifth round) from the Eagles in exchange for the No. 12 pick (acquired in the trade with the Niners), No. 123 (fourth round) and a 2022 first-round pick, Philadelphia announced.

Tyreek Hill trade (the only SF asset is the 29th overall)

It was an incredibly bad move and it's mind numbing that people seem to think it was a smart gamble. You'd have to post pages to sift through the nonsense thinking behind continuing to justify it in hindsight.

I doubt the FO spends very much time if any at all in this thread.

I was talking about Jim Harbaugh's quote he gave at a press conference. I'm certain they were paying attention to that, lol.

I doubt anyone will respond to my post because it doesn't support the thought that the Lance trade was so bad since the 49ers could have had Chubb, Hill, and Waddle, all under the cap, added to the current roster.

Imagine thinking it would have been Lance or these 3.

Waddle cost 2 first and a 4th

Chubb cost 1st 4th and a RB

Hill cost a 2022 first-round pick (No. 29), second-round pick (No. 50) and fourth-round pick, plus fourth- and sixth-round picks in the 2023 draft

The trade was bad because we got zero impact from incredibly valuable assets for at least two years going on three, when our team was on the doorstep of winning the Super Bowl in those years. And that's just one angle of the failure. There were/are plenty others, some of which we may miraculously avoid.

It's safe to say we don't end up with Hill, Waddle, and Chubb. It's also safe to say we couldn't have gotten less from what we did so far.
