This clown has been against Trey from the very beginning. So his view point on this doesn't hold much weight. And I am sorry but any content creator or fan that wants to just give Trey away have a personal bias towards that player that goes beyond just how he plays the position. Because it makes no sense to trade him for peanuts when you can keep him for the same price. You don't even gain any cap space. They actually lose cap space.

He was for the Trey pick, so was I. He's right though in everything he's saying. Picking Trey over Mac or Fields wasn't the mistake, the mistake was the trade. He was for swinging for the fences with Trey once we put ourselves in that position

It just hasn't worked out. Nobody has some personal hate for Trey, it just hasn't worked out and that's clear to anyone that is willing to accept the reality of this situation

The sunk cost in draft capital hasn't really taken its toll yet. Getting what you can for Trey now would be wise because after a couple of bad preseason games he'll have almost no trade value. This idea that Trey is going to blossom into a Mahomes or Allen clone is a pipe dream. Darnold is a much better option than wasting a roster spot on a project Especially if they truly plan on moving on or if they're simply fielding a periphery of calls to peak interest. I doubt he fetches more than a 4th round pick at this point. I mean is the foot jacked up? Not like he was a deadly scrambler to begin with or ….Has he improved on throwing an accurate forward pass? Footwork? Awareness? Recognizing a defense? Running a basic offense? Teams are concerned with his inexperience and limited reps. Tough situation

What's funny is in hindsight, didn't have to trade up at all to land mac or fields. Tbf, I thought both would go earlier than they did. I do believe Lance would of been taken by ATL.

i actually didn't have a problem with the trade because it essentially guaranteed who we would of been able to pick, but I do agree that it was a lot to move up to #3.

i do think that picking Lance over fields was a massive mistake. Fields hasn't been great but he would of given us the 11-11 that Kyle said he wanted and would most likely be a more polished passer with this staff and roster.

but what's done is done, nothing we can do about it. I feel like Purdy is and will be better than Mac/Lance/Jones. From a pure passer standpoint. The whole running thing isn't that important and all it does is make the QBs lifespan/availability limited after a few seasons.

i think we are in a really good situation whether we trade Lance or not. Either we keep him and use him as a backup, if needed, or we trade him and get some resources. Win/win. So I don't really care what happens - as long as Purdy is healthy and continues playing how he was.

I've heard this a lot from other fans but there's a video from their war room when we made our pick, and based on their reaction I don't think he was a target of theirs.

I think it's unlikely many teams had Lance higher on their board than Fields... but I'm just speculating there. Personally I preferred Lance of the two, and would probably still prefer him. Fields isn't in a very different position if he's here IMO.

At this point considering we're not even going to develop Trey anymore, yea I would have taken Fields over him. The trade to me has just always been a major f**k up, worse than Trey > Fields

But yea in the end I'm happy with Brock. What we need is a passer and Brock shows the most hope there. He's a pretty good scrambler too, Steve Young was comparing him to Mahomes so he's got enough wheels. I have more hope in him being good than Trey materializing

Hmm yeah maybe it was a smokescreen on their part? They still need a QB pretty bad though. Last years qb was a pretty bad crop. Pickett seems like he'll be okay.

Brock is much more mobile than most give him. Even opposing head coaches and defensive players have talked about how elusive he is. In my opinion, he was one of the most important traits to be a "scrambler" and that's his short area quickness. Lance is fast but idk id say he is "quick". He isn't slow but Not real quick in short areas like Murray/fields/Lamar is.

i hope Trey eventually develops in this league, I'd be happy for him, but I just don't see him being anything special. There is nothing wrong with him having a solid career, idk why some get so upset when I say that.

id rather have a qb who's very accurate, hits tight window throws, and is elusive. I've said it before, but If you need to be taught how to do that at this stage, I don't think you can ever be elite at it. Brock could end up stalling out like jimmy did but I'd rather take my chances on that instead of trying to get Lance up to speed.

I really, really badly wanted us to draft Fields the moment we made the trade for #3. But I do not understand at all why the general media/social media pipeline has already crowned Fields as a franchise quarterback. The dude has shown virtually nothing as a passer aside from one bomb every 4 games. He has one flashy 40-yard run on Red Zone every hour but even Fields himself admitted that that's not a sustainable playstyle for a quarterback at all.

Trust me. If Fields actually turns into something, I'll be one of the first to be extremely loud and annoying about it. But I'm not ready to crown him like everyone else seems to be. Let's see how he does with DJ Moore first.

Yeah, I'm not crowning but I think he's shown a lot. Especially given the horrible lack of talent the team has had around him and average coaching at best. He's essentially had everything work against him and still makes magic happen from time to time.

i think he has everything you'd need in a qb to be really good if they'd surround him with talent. I think we will learn a lot about him this season, they've done a good job with free agents and trades.

if he doesn't have a nice improvement this year, then I was wrong, but i think he will do just fine. Better than Lance and Mac.

Is Fields surrounded by superstars at this point no but I feel the talent at the skill positions is completely undervalued.
Would rather take the 11m cap hit this year on Trey than post-June where it's split or next off season where it's still 5.5mil regardless.

I still think trading Lance would be dumb until we know for sure where Purdy is at health wise which won't happen before June 1st, but if it was set in stone I'd rather rip the bandaid sooner than later.

I prefer Purdy over both of them. I just think he has the it factor and he's perfect for this team. Just hope he fully recovers and stays healthy. He kinda reminds me of John Stockton ie steady, smart, gritty playmaker. But I do feel bad or Trey. He's on the outside looking in and between Purdy and/or Trey, it's not even close. Doubt Trey ever gets a real opportunity with the Niners. That ship has sailed.
EDITED because I don't want to be THAT guy which is so prevalent on this board......

This up coming season he has a much better supporting cast than 2022.

fields was the leading rusher on his team with over 1,100 rushing yards. you can't say with a straight face that he wouldnt be doing way better here.

his supporting cast was AWFUL. Lol Fields had absolute no help. Still managed to beat us. Lol
his 2022 supporting cast should make you throw up.

Top RB:
Justin fields: 1,143 yards 7.1 average
David Montgomery 801 yards 4.0 YPC

Top WR:
1. D. Mooney 493 yards
2. E. St Brown 323 Yards
3. Dante Pettis 245 yards
TOP TE
1. C Kmet 544 yards (teams leading receiver).

how anyone can say this is a good supporting cast.. idk who anyone is, outside of Pettis (not known for good reasons lol)

im not posting this as a Fields vs Lance thing. I'm just responding to a poster saying his supporting cast is undervalued. His supporting cast should have to give part of their salary to Fields. Lol this is a god awful offense. So damn sad we lost to them.

Fields has shown nothing as a passer so far. Sure he makes throws from time to time but so has Trey. Fields had an 85.2 rating last season. I think the average is like 90 or something. He had 17 TD passes but he gets every excuse in the book, His team won like 4 games. Trey has played 4 games and is ruled a bust. Fields is a dynamic runner but he's not a good passer right now.

If we trade trey, does the cap hit go with him?
