ramsey on Josh allen back in 2018…

"I think (Buffalo Bills draft pick Josh) Allen is trash," Ramsey told GQ's Clay Skipper. "I don't care what nobody say. He's trash. And it's gonna show too. That's a stupid draft pick to me. We play them this year, and I'm excited as hell. I hope he's their starting quarterback. He played at Wyoming. Every time they played a big school—like, they played Iowa State, which is not a big school in my opinion because I went to Florida State, and he threw five interceptions, and they lost by a couple touchdowns or something like that.✞ He never beat a big school. If you look at his games against big schools, it was always hella interceptions, hella turnovers. It's like: Yo, if you're this good, why couldn't you do better? He fits that mold, he's a big, tall quarterback. Big arm, supposedly. I don't see it, personally."

How about Hurts? This was from PFF after 2021

  • Hurts ranked 40th out of 42 quarterbacks graded by PFF.
  • Hurts ranked 31st out of 37 quarterbacks in Football Outsiders' DVOA metric.
  • Among qualified quarterbacks, Drew Lock led the NFL in bad throws (22.9%) and ranked last in on target throws (68.9%) last year. Hurts was significantly worse in those categories (26.7% and 60.7%).
  • Hurts completed just 52% of his attempts. For perspective on how low that number is, Drew Lock ranked last out of 35 qualified quarterbacks with a 57.3% completion percentage.
  • Hurts completed just 48.8% of his attempts on non-play action plays. (Interestingly, he had the NFL's biggest completion percentage difference between play action and not with a 66.7% completion on the former.)
  • Hurts' 7.2 yards per attempt was only tied for the 20th best mark.
  • Hurts' 77.6 passer rating ranked only above Lock, Dwayne Haskins, Carson Wentz, and Sam Darnold.
  • Only six players fumbled more than Hurts last year despite the fact he played just 334 snaps (29.6%).
  • Hurts took the longest average time to throw at 3.39 seconds. Lamar Jackson was the second-longest at 3.17 seconds. With Hurts failing to get the ball out quick, PFF charted him for the second-highest percentage of pressures generated by defense charged to quarterbacks. This is to say he invited too much pressure.

it's almost like playing football and developing takes some time…and actual reps.

The big difference between the situation with Allen and Hurts, and it is a BIG difference, is that those two were allowed to take their lumps and learn the position on teams that were not pulled down by their poor learning experiences. Those teams were not expected to do well in those early years. Hence, they could stink up the place and no one was all that surprised or disappointed.

In contrast, no matter how the balance of this year turns out, this current roster is going to be highly favored to make a strong playoff run in 2023 if the QB can play at a reasonably efficient level. So, while that may be just stating the obvious, it is also a fact that must be weighing heavily on the minds of not only Lynch and Shanahan but also on the minds of every fan that has seen virtually every young QB not named Mahomes struggle in their first full year or two.

The Bills went to the playoffs the yr prior. The eagles are never setup to suck. Their GM is always building that team to win right now. They were also in the playoffs the yr prior. Both teams were drafting in the 20s before moving up (the Bills moved up)…SF was drafting 12th overall when they moved up.

people think SF is the only team that's trying to win right now and can't afford to develop. Which is false.

I look at it completely different. This team around him can play well without having a stud QB, we see that every Sunday. The roster can help a young QB "get though his lumps" they don't have to force a young QB to do more than he can, which often leads to a f**k ton of mistakes and why high end picks on bad teams rarely turn out.

if it was weighing heavy on them they would have never drafted Lance and they would have never tried to move Jimmy all off season. Fans need to relax and understand there will be moments where he shows us why he was the pick and moments of play that all young QBs have. They never wanted Lance to get hurt, but the pick was meant for the next decade not just his first yr as a starter. Sooner people get that the better everything will be for them.

I'm excited about the future and seeing what Trey does. It has been frustrating as a fan but I imagine it's much worse as a player dealing with injuries and set backs.
I understand the reasons for the trade and hope it works out.

But Josh allen this
But Josh Allen that...

Why dont you tell me the stats for akili smiths first 6 starts, jamarcus, tim couch, rick mirer, or every other first round bust. Stop using Josh Allen as a way of showing trey lance is going to succeed, It shows he has a .09% chance of succeeding. Its possible, but is it probable at this point?

Wrong. He became the starter based on his ability to run and throw deep. Stop. Jimmy did not beat Trey out, nor would he have in any open competition, because Shanahan planned from day one to play 11 on 11 football.

Based on TC reports and the way he looked in preseason I do not believe he would have beat Jimmy out in a legit competition. The Trey Lance move was because of Jimmys contract. He's not good enough to justify losing other key pieces. It was either keep Jimmy or lose other more important players.

There was no competition. Trey Lance was handed the job

THat's beacuse you've never read a preseason report on JIMMY, who looked WORSE in 2020 and 2019 (infamous 5 INTS in a row ring a bell?).

Preseason report lol
I'm still big on his potential and know he can be successful on the 49ers. But Shanahan needs to get rid of the Read Option as well as QB power plays in the offseason. He can throw the ball fine (especially checkdowns to CMC/Deebo/Mitchell) and is mobile enough to scramble when needed to make an off schedule throw. Force him to practice sliding which I definitely think he will realize that he has to do now after suffering the injury.

Arm talent is undeniable. He's also a big film junkie and student of game (even after breaking his ankle he asked Shanahan whether he made the right read on some play). At the end of the day if you want to compete with Allen/Mahomes/etc. for the next 10 years, you are going to need a young player with elite arm talent. Sorry guys like Jimmy, Kirk, and old fading dudes like Stafford/Rodgers/Brady are not going to cut it for the next decade.

Good organizations with good coaching and surrounding talent are the most important things for a young QB having success. No reason not to expect success with him next year (as long as Shanny doesn't run him every other f**kING play).

Preseason report lol

The guy I'm responding LITERALLY MENTIONED preseason.

Jimmy's 2021 Preseason stats:

10-16 105 yards, 0 TDs, 1 INT,

Trey's 2022 Preseason stats:
11-17 141 yards, 1 TD, 0 INT

And this guy going to say that TREY looked bad in the pre-season. Please. 2020 JIMMY LOOKED WORSE. PERIOD. FACT. ACCEPT OBSERVABLE REALITY. GET OVER IT.

If this guy can judge Lance by pre-season and a freaking monsoon (where Trey looked better than Jimmy did in his own monsoon against the Colts), then I can judge Jimmy by his 2021 pre-season.

WE. DO. NOT. HAVE. ENOUGH. INFORMATION. TO. JUDGE. TREY. LANCE.

PERIOD.
