They are lucky to have Parage, & they would be smart to try to hire a wise man like John McVay, etc (or Rsrkshn, mad dog, or me ).

Is there some other Lynch on the 49ers staff? This sounds NOTHING like John Lynch to me. Or did I miss something and the sarcasm sailed over my head?

The Falcons were represented at both of Lance's Pro Days, and as Jeremy Fowler of ESPN.com writes, if there was a signal-caller to stop Atlanta from taking Pitts, Lance might have been it (subscription required). A source tells Fowler that Lance thought the Falcons were the club most interested in him, and after the Pro Days, NDSU coaching staff got the sense that Lance would not fall past Atlanta.

Interesting. So maybe he wasn't a reach after all!

I always thought if 49ers don't take Lance at #3, Falcons would take him at #4, with an outside chance of Fields or Jones. Good luck getting evidence of that from the Falcons though...

49ers weren't healthy in 2019...Brady is the GOAT but he wasn't beating that 2019 defense.

We had numerous good bounces? What are you talking about? We played one of the toughest schedules while dealing with some of the worst injury situation in the league that year. We completely outplayed Seattle all year long and needed to beat them at their house to even win their division because they coasted and got a cheap win over us with half the team out due to injury, including the kicker who missed a game winner in OT

Who had an answer for our running game when we were healthy and committed to it? KC didn't stop it, we stopped it.

We don't know if our defense was better then or will be next year. It certainly wasn't great in the 2nd half of the season. Losing Buckner and not having Ford is a downgrade. Getting younger players to develop further and having an actually legit corner in Verrett to play with a great DL is another situation.

Overall I'd say our team is definitely better on paper.

Definitely?! I mean, maybe better. Jimmy had a few great games (@ARI, @NO, and @SEA) but overall, he was a better than average QB.

I agree that the second half of the year the defense was injured and not nearly as good as the first half of the season. But still, I can't imagine our defense being as good as '19, in totality. I can imagine our offense being better. Deebo got progressively better through the year, and at this point Aiyuk is better than Sanders and we have him for the whole season. Our O-line should be better as well. I see our running attack as about the same, possibly better but not by much.

Overall, I think we're similar when healthy, but our step back in defense seems more drastic than any potential improvement to our offense. If we're to return to the SB, it'll be because we're getting substantially better play at QB.

I say definitely assuming everyone is healthy which you kind of have to assume when making these comparisons.

Our starting DL MAY not be as good but our secondary is better, our linebackers are better and our DL has better depth.

On offense our QB room is stronger. Our WRs are stronger. Our OL is stronger and I think our RBs are improved.

Overall i definitely think this team is better. Of course that's on paper. Guys have to stay healthy. Bosa needs to show he's back from his injury. Kinlaw has to take a big step forward and Ebukam has to show he can rush from the outside.

Like I said our DL may not be as good as the starting unit of Bosa, Buckner, Armstead and Ford in terms of pass rush. But Bosa, Kinlaw, Armstead, Sosa may not be a big step down. Especially when you add more developed Warner and Greenlaw and faster secondary including Verrett who was a legit lockdown corner last year we didn't have in 2019.

Same here brother
Soooo freaking excited for the Trey Lance era! Truly believe we got one of um boys, the future QB faces of the NFL with Mahomes, Jackson, Murray, Herbert, Allen etc... No doubt in my mind Lance will be in that tier

There was a lot of talk of if someone wants Lance they need to get to 3 indicating Atlanta would jump on him. Doesn't mean it was the truth but we'll never know.

Regardless if Lance turns into a franchise QB for us nobody will care about what was given up for him.

I've brought up the OJ Simpson trade a few times. As awful as that trade was for us there's a reason it's not constantly brought up as a huge franchise killer...I mean we gave up a bunch of picks and what ended up being #1 overall pick for Simpson clearly on the decline and got half assed production from him for 2 years before he retired.

It's because we drafted Joe Montana and become a dynasty...nobody cared. Irony with that trade was had we not traded for OJ and ended up with #1 overall we likely don't see Joe Montana as a 49er and Phil Simms is Walsh's chosen QB. Who knows how history looks for us then.

Basically...win and nobody cares what you trade away years down the road. Lance has all the talent you want and is coming into a great spot for him to have success. We'll see how it shakes out...but worrying about whether we gave up too much or if we even needed to trade up for him at this point is stupid.

I'm with you Sonoco, I personally don't get that read from Lynch either. It's actually kind of baffling to me.

I don't either. He seems like the adult in the room.

Yeah, same here, can't wait to see the rook play.

Also, Lynch has great respect around the league as a straight-shooter with personal integrity. That's an underrated quality for a GM, who at times, has to use personal contacts on other teams to engage in trade talks.

I've heard more than one NFL front-office person say this about Lynch, actually going out of their way to say it, when there was no reason for them to do so. They had huge respect for who Lynch is and saw him as someone they are glad to do business with.

Hey, this was my 49th post, cool!

I've been reading all these articles about Julio Jones lately. So glad to be reading about Julio Jones instead of Mac Jones, lol.

Anyway, I actually like Jimmy and think he's under-rated, but the Julio buzz has me wondering if it might be smart to acquire him from Atlanta, and just jump off the cliff to the future with Lance, trading or even cutting Jimmy to recover the cap room.

Sounds crazy risky, but I have a hunch that Lance could hold it together enough for us to win a lot of games as he improves, especially if he has Deebo, Aiyuk, Julio, Kittle, Mostert, etc., that's a ton of offensive firepower that will make up for a lot of rookie mistakes, and Lance is probably a fast learner.

Other than the possibility of ruining Lance (he's inexperienced, though I think he could handle it), is the risk of not having a capable backup qb should something happen to Lance. That's a valid argument against taking the leap, but I actually think it would work out ok, and I doubt that Jimmy will be able to deliver a Lombardi for us anyway, as much as I like him, so why not take the chance and go get Julio?

Not really football related and not sure if it's already been talked about but has anyone else heard that Trey Lance is dating Colin Cowherd's daughter? Lol

I like Lynch, he has a good head on his shoulders. He knows how to handle Kyle. He basically gives Kyle the information Kyle needs to make good decisions. Example, they changed the medical grading system to highlight the potential draftees previous injures. He's able to self scout and learn from the Reuben Foster incidents.

The most important thing I like about John is he knows his job is to support Kyle and not be the coach (opposit of the way Baalke seemed to run things). An added bonus is that he has a great relationship with Mike Shanahan, who he probably has relied on to influence Kyle in a certain direction John thinks he needs to go (possible example is the Kirk Cousins model vs the Mobile QB model). And was able to get Kyle to draft Trey.

Both Kyle and John love football and have a great relationship and I think that's probably the best thing about them I like the most. They could easily have thrown each other under the bus with regards to not drafting Mahomes, but they didn't, instead both learned from that mistake and got Trey.
