Look at how many Trey fans are already noticing the pass protection now and he's GOING to hold it much longer than Garoppolo.

Double standard.

And my original point all along was no matter the style of QB, pass protection is critical. Hell, I even argued it was MORE important for a raw rookie like Trey so he doesn't develop early poor habits.

But many fans just figured a mobile QB could transcend poor pass protection. That's been one of the biggest fallacies on this board.

The biggest problem with this board is that everything is 'black or white'. NC, your bolded comment is such a huge generalization. You, obviously, can point to Mahomes in the SB as an example of his being mobile didn't help. I could point to the 1st, I believe, play of the Arizona game where Lance escaped a very quick pressure for a 1st down. Garoppolo is a dead duck in that play.
Maybe it's more grey than black or white.!

Wasn't Trey also responsible for not adjusting the protection on that play and therefor allowed the free rusher in the first place? Not so sure Jimmy would have missed that one.

Based on everything we've researched and gleaned from Shanahan over the years, that play is 100% on Alex Mack.

I didn't post that to get in this JImmy vs Trey debate, it was just to point out that a mobile QB can help, in certain situations, avoid certain sacks due to poor pass protection.

That is not how this guy explains it. He even said an ex 49er lineman, who played under Shanahan, stated the same thing.

I didn't think Roman could help him improve his passing so much. Very surprised to see become such a good passer now too.

Yeah, it's possible. We'll never know for certain unless Kyle Shanahan comes out and says it. Matt Ryan has said in the past that Alex Mack handled all protection calls in Atlanta so who knows.

But even numbers and a 13-year vet center. It shouldn't happen, especially not on the first play of the game.
Heard he threw after practice ended today

He is currently on pace to throw for his lowest amount of TDs, his highest amount of INTs, his lowest QBR, and tied for lowest passer rating. Outside of the Colts game, he has been average as a passer. Not exactly sure what you guys are looking at.

That's a fan take. Alex Mack himself confirmed he makes the protection calls when he got here. He said Kyle likes to take that off his QB's plate since he already has so much to deal with pre snap.

Haha. OK. You just presented an example of the black. The white example is the pocket QB sees the overload, calls a hot read and instantly gets rid of the ball so there's no need to scramble and evade pressure to begin with.

The evidence shows the mobile QB's have higher TTT and take the most sacks. The flip side is they also provide higher AIY and make more explosive plays.

It's a trade off of differing skill sets and some classic pocket passers and mobile QB's are better than others in their classification.

But either way, a mobile QB is NOT transcending poor pass protection. And neither is classic pocket passer. Poor pass protection is simply that...poor pass protection and it causes massive issues for both styles of QB's.

Is this black, white and grey enough for you?

My question on that play is did Mack think the RB was going to stay in and protect there, instead of getting split out before the snap.
