Me too, but then trade Jimmy now and stop the cap hemorrhaging, get a draft pick, and with rare exceptions stop with the designed Trey runs and teach him to be a pocket passer.

Unless Jimmy agrees to, they can't trade him until the 2022 offseason.

If we do this, he's a backup here, and a starter where someone wants him. What would you do?

But ultimately it comes down to the money for him I'm sure.

I'm guessing he would want out. Once a starter it's hard to go back to the bench. QBs are starting to drop around the league.

That's guaranteed to him this year no matter what, although it can be negotiable on which team pays what. And we're going to cut him after this year if we can't move him, so he'll be starting at zero, and he can't get that kind of money again.

IMO if they didn't have a billion holding calls, this game and play-calling would have been vastly different. We would have had more running plays (from the RB) and a lot more PA from under center.

They were constantly behind the chains...look at these stats, the fact that they still moved the ball is kinda shocking.

4 times in this game the 49ers had a penalty on first down that put them at 1st & 15/20

They had a 2nd & 15 turn into a 2nd & 25 as well as a 3rd & 7 turn into a 3rd & 17

It's hard to have any kind of sustainable success when you're constantly putting yourself behind like that

The 49ers had a 10 play drive that took up 7 1/2 minutes of game time

That drive netted only 18 yards due to 3 separate holding penalties that pushed the offense back

That is absolutely backbreaking and arguably hurt them more than not converting the 4th & Goal in the 1st half

The 49ers offense took the ball into Arizona's territory on 8/9 of their drives today

They've taken the ball into their opponents territory on 10/15 drives that Trey Lance has been under center this season

The offense has clearly moved the ball better with #5 at QB

Still need to get more than yards, but If they cut down on the penalties they would have won IMO.

My God this has been a problem all year. Between Kyle's predictable runs on first downs to penalties on first downs, this offense has constantly been behind the 8-ball on 1st and longs and 2nd and 12+.

When I say this offense is all about first downs this is what I mean.

Yup. Penalties are killing us right now. Yesterday's game was very painful and frustrating to watch with all the penalties being called on the O-Line.

And not every call was a legit hold, a lot of "flopping" by AZ. Refs could call holding damn near every play, one team goes full LBJ flopping mode and the refs see it and will always call it. SF tries to play through the holds and doesn't get the call.

SF made their bed with Jimmy the moment they kept him on the final roster...no team is gonna take on any of his money the way the cap is currently. SF is stuck with him and he probably starts as long as he's healthy

I don't think we'll see that many runs once Trey knows the offense better and learns to spot the open receivers quicker. Maybe he was looking downfield too much and not seeing the short underneath stuff so he just took off. Some were designed runs but not all of them.

Trey was the fastest ball carrier in the game yesterday at 19.51 mph.

Jimmy cold have a long career as a back-up. I know teams are desperate for starters but he can't make it through a game let alone a season. He would be an a-line backup in the league.

I disagree. I believe Jimmy would have been sacked today yes, however he would have also hit the check down most the time also resulting in positive yards.

As I stated before, I was exaggerating on the 10 sacks. Still, Jimmy would have gone down a couple of times, even with that quick release.

That's right. jimmy slides forward in the pocket which is what the oline is used to. He would have been sacked one more time but also completed 3-4 more.

Any opinion on the batted balls?

Two reasons:

1. He takes a long windup which allows the DL time to get up in the air to block the ball. That is a mechanical flaw that needs to be corrected.

2. He was hesitant to make the throw. That gave the DL time to push forward and be in a better position to block. That is a rookie mistake that should be eliminated with more experience.

In short, he played like an inexperienced rookie, which is what he is.

Yep. I predicted before the season that I didn't expect him to start more than four or five games before injury or performance or Trey's progress benched him, and argued $25m was Way too much for four games. But i also acknowledged that giving Trey even that space to learn, and then having JG as a backup was worth something too, just not that much.

And to get rid of him, I agree we're going to have to kick in part of his salary for this year. That's negotiated in the trades all the time. Still, what we save and a draft pick is of value.

Kyle has always said the problem with "athletic" quarterbacks is that you can't keep them in the pocket until they've exhausted their reads. Well, he better, or he's going to be the first to not like it, because he's going to have used multiple plays to set up guys wide open that are left hanging.
